Job Purpose

Aiglon College is an international boarding school nestled in the breathtaking Swiss Alps, renowned for delivering a challenging and transformative holistic education. We provide an inspiring environment within a safe, caring, and supportive framework. Accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS), our school serves 500 students aged 6 to 18 from 70 different nations. Our students prepare for Cambridge IGCSEs and the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme.

We are seeking to appoint a teacher of Biology to join our team in January 2027. The ideal candidate will have a wealth of teaching experience and a proven track record of achieving outstanding results. Successful applicants must possess experience teaching Biology at the IB or A-level, as well as IGCSE Biology and lower school general science. However, we welcome applications from all inspiring candidates.

The science faculty, comprising eleven full-time teachers and four dedicated lab technicians, is a dynamic and friendly team that enjoys collaborating and sharing best practices. Our curriculum emphasizes laboratory activities and student-led inquiry, supported by modern apparatus and data-logging equipment. This ensures students not only gain subject knowledge but also develop essential scientific skills and an appreciation of scientific methodology. The department recently completed a major refurbishment of its well-equipped laboratories housed within a chalet-style building. Furthermore, we are committed to enhancing the quality of science and technology offered in our extracurricular programs.

In the Discovery programme (Years 7-9), students learn science from a singular teacher. For Years 10 and above, separate sciences are taught by subject specialists, with students in Year 10 and 11 preparing for the Cambridge Double Award Coordinated Science IGCSE. Those joining Aiglon in Year 11 will participate in a pre-IB science course, tailored to equip them with the requisite knowledge and skills for success in Group 4 Science diploma courses starting in Year 12.

Teachers at Aiglon College are expected to contribute significantly to the school’s ethos and actively enhance the vibrancy of school life and work. While each teacher is directly responsible to the relevant Head of Department for the successful management of their classes, the key responsibilities outlined below will define their pivotal roles. Additional responsibilities may arise occasionally at the reasonable request of the School Director.

Professional Standards and Expectations

• Execute teaching duties and responsibilities in alignment with Aiglon's Guiding Principles.
• Plan and deliver engaging lessons in a safe learning environment.
• Treat all members of the community—colleagues and students—with respect and fairness.
• Set a good example in terms of attire, punctuality, and attendance.
• Adhere to school policies as outlined in the Aiglon Guide and similar documents while supporting the school's ethos.
• Prepare for each term by arriving on campus in good time for meetings and preparations.
• Engage in personal professional development and participate in staff training sessions.
• Reflect on practices for continuous improvement.
• Undertake pastoral and other assigned duties following school policies.
• Meet all deadlines as established in the school calendar.
• Attend Assembly/Meditation at least two mornings each week and provide a Meditation termly.
• Proactively address health and safety matters.
• Participate regularly in school events, be it religious, spiritual, sporting, or cultural.

Teaching and Tutoring

• Teach a predetermined number of academic lessons aligned with departmental schemes of work.
• Collaborate with colleagues on unit planning for concurrent delivery.
• Support students with specific learning difficulties in coordination with relevant staff.
• Utilize students' prior attainments and baseline data to set targets for improvement.
• Assign work to students absent for various reasons.
• Prepare students for public examinations, including coursework assessment.
• Encourage ICT engagement and skill development both in the curriculum and broader school life.
• Maintain discipline by adhering to school guidelines and fostering a driven learning atmosphere.
• Set high expectations for behavior and academic presentation.
• If required, act as a tutor in an assigned Boarding House, ensuring the best practices in pastoral care.
• Assume house duties as designated by the School Director, typically including regular weekday and weekend responsibilities.

Assessment, Recording, and Reporting

• Maintain comprehensive notes and plans for lessons and students' work.
• Mark, monitor, and provide timely feedback on student work, setting future learning targets.
• Conduct formative and summative assessments in line with policy.
• Apply procedures for identifying special educational needs and other support requirements.
• Prepare detailed reports on student progress at term's end.
• Attend parents' meetings as scheduled in the school calendar.

Co-Curricular Duties

• Contribute to the weekly Activities programme in consultation with the Activities Coordinator.
• Engage in the annual Cultural Learning Experiences in coordination with the Deputy School Director.
• Participate in the Expeditions programme, including winter and summer expeditions.

Communication and Meetings

• Attend required meetings and ensure clear and timely communication.
• Assist with promoting the school’s initiatives where necessary.
• Protect and enhance Aiglon's reputation in all external interactions.
