Job Description

In this role, you will own the Trade Compliance framework for the Local Business Line (LBL) and be accountable for establishing, implementing, and continuously improving the policies, processes, controls, and governance required to ensure compliant execution of our global business activities. You will ensure that all international business transactions, project deliveries, imports, exports, cross-border shipments, and related trade activities are conducted in accordance with ABB's Global Trade Program and applicable customs, export control, sanctions, and origin regulations. As the LBL's Trade Compliance authority, you will define and maintain the operational trade compliance framework. You will establish clear processes, responsibilities, controls, and escalation mechanisms and ensure effective implementation across all relevant functions. You will drive the integration of trade compliance requirements into daily operations and act as the primary point of contact for complex compliance matters, regulatory changes, and risk mitigation. Additionally, you will be responsible for developing, documenting, and maintaining procedures and training programs related to export controls, sanctions, customs, and origin management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, improve, and implement processes for LBL's customs procedures, origin management, sanctions list screening, dual-use classification, and export controls.
  • Functionally lead trade compliance resources within the LBL.
  • Oversee trade compliance within the Local Business Line, including the implementation and continuous improvement of ABB’s Trade Compliance Program, internal directives, internal control systems, local trade reviews, self-audits, and corrective actions.
  • Provide expert guidance and training on customs, origin, export control, and sanctions compliance, while coordinating trade compliance resources and maintaining strong alignment with key stakeholders such as CTCO, TCS, PCE, declarants, and logistics teams.
  • Drive trade compliance in day-to-day operations and complex projects, including risk assessments, internal checks, master data and supplier-related compliance requirements, and regular updates to stakeholders on implementation progress and relevant regulatory changes.
  • Advise and oversee all trade compliance matters in LBL’s complex projects across various countries.

What We're Looking For

  • A degree as a Foreign Trade Specialist / Manager or in Export Control / Customs Compliance, with at least 8 years of experience in a relevant field (Senior Trade Compliance or Legal/Compliance background).
  • Excellent experience in free trade and preferential origins as well as trade compliance matters.
  • Solid knowledge of Swiss (GKV), EU, and US (EAR) dual-use and sanctions regulations.
  • Experience in an industry with large project businesses across various countries, along with the ability to lead people and be a solution-oriented team player.
  • Familiarity with SAP and SAP GTS E4H.
  • Fluency in English; German is a plus.
