Pi Imaging Technology is a fabless semiconductor company focused on creating single-photon detector arrays characterized by exceptional sensitivity and low noise levels. Our mission is to empower our partners to introduce innovative products that facilitate cutting-edge research in fields such as life sciences—including confocal microscopy and fluorescence (FLIM) imaging—as well as quantum information. Our technology leverages single-photon avalanche diodes (SPADs) designed with standard semiconductor methods, enabling photon-counting arrays with megapixel resolution and adaptable architectures. These arrays seamlessly integrate into plug-and-play products, supported by FPGA firmware and C++ software that ensure a smooth operating experience for end-users.

Position Description

In this role, you will be part of a small electronics engineering team, engaging in a diverse array of tasks related to the development of both new and existing products. Key responsibilities include:

• Develop FPGA firmware and software for high-speed serial communication interfaces
• Design PCBs for high-speed serial communication/storage solutions alongside high-bandwidth connections for detector arrays
• Verify firmware and software and address bugs reported by users
• Conduct initial bring-up and characterization of new detectors
• Procure components and assembly services for prototypes
• Assemble proof-of-concept and prototype devices

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in electronics engineering or a related field
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English

Required Skills

• Ability to efficiently and independently manage multiple tasks
• Strong interpersonal skills and a proven ability to work well in a team
• Advanced proficiency in C++, VHDL, and Altium Designer
• Experience in designing FPGA firmware in VHDL under tight timing constraints
• Familiarity with high-speed serial communication protocols (e.g., Xilinx Aurora, PCI-E)
• Experience with test and measurement requirements
• Proficiency in data analysis software such as Python or similar

Nice-to-Have Skills

• Understanding of statistics (e.g., Poisson and exponential distributions)
• Familiarity with semiconductor technology
• Knowledge of testing protocols necessary for validating semiconductor chips
