Pi Imaging Technology is a fabless semiconductor company specializing in the creation of single-photon detector arrays that deliver exceptional sensitivity and low noise. Our solutions empower partners to develop innovative products utilized by end-users engaged in groundbreaking research within the life sciences, including confocal microscopy and fluorescence (FLIM) imaging, as well as in quantum information applications. Our technology is rooted in single-photon avalanche diodes (SPADs) designed using standard semiconductor methods, enabling photon-counting arrays with megapixel resolution and adaptable architectures. These arrays are seamlessly integrated into plug-and-play products, enhanced by both FPGA firmware and C++ software, ensuring an optimal user experience.

Position Description

In this role, you will join a small but dynamic electronics engineering team, taking on a variety of responsibilities related to the development of both new and existing products. Key tasks include:

• Developing FPGA firmware and software for a high-speed serial communication interface
• Designing PCBs for high-speed serial communication and storage solutions, incorporating high-bandwidth connections for the detector arrays
• Verifying firmware and software functionality and addressing any bugs reported by end-users
• Conducting initial bring-up and characterization of new detectors
• Procuring components and assembly services for prototypes
• Assembling proof-of-concept prototypes

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in electronics engineering or a related field
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English

Required Skills

• Ability to efficiently execute multiple tasks independently
• Strong interpersonal skills and capability to work effectively within a team
• Advanced knowledge and experience in C++, VHDL, and Altium Designer
• Proficient in designing FPGA firmware in VHDL with tight timing constraints
• Experience with high-speed serial communication (e.g., Xilinx Aurora, PCI-E)
• Familiarity with test and measurement requirements
• Experience in utilizing data analysis software such as Python or similar

Nice-to-Have Skills

• Knowledge of statistics, particularly Poisson and exponential distributions
• Familiarity with semiconductor technology
• Understanding of required testing methodologies to validate semiconductor chips
