The Role

The Athlete Welfare & Sustainability Assistant plays a key role in supporting the delivery of the ISU’s athlete welfare and sustainability strategy. Working closely with the Head of Athlete Welfare & Sustainability, the Coordinator will help develop, implement, and monitor initiatives that enhance athlete well-being, strengthen safeguarding practices, support athlete education, and advance sustainability across the sport.

This position is ideal for an organized, proactive, and people-focused professional with experience in athlete welfare, sports administration, athlete services, or related fields. The successful candidate will work with a wide range of stakeholders, including athletes, Member Federations, event organizers, volunteers, committees, and external partners to ensure the successful delivery of programs and initiatives worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

Athlete Welfare

  • Sports Medicine and Athlete Health Committee: Coordinate meeting logistics and administration, including preparing agendas, taking minutes, and tracking action items as required.
  • Injury Reporting/Monitoring: Support the collection, analysis, and reporting of athlete injury data, and assist in preparing injury monitoring reports and related documentation.
  • Calm Zone: Assist with recruiting, supporting, and coordinating a network of volunteers to staff Calm Zones at ISU events, liaise with Organizing Committees and the ISU Events Team to plan and deliver Calm Zones throughout the season, and support the ongoing development and evaluation of Calm Zones initiatives.
  • Event-based Mental Health/Welfare: Attend event medical meetings as required to promote and coordinate mental health and welfare provision, serving as a contact for welfare and safeguarding concerns.
  • Anti-Doping Education Delivery: Coordinate with the International Testing Agency (ITA) regarding event-based education delivery, liaising with Organizing Committees to facilitate anti-doping education programs.
  • Cybser Safety: Assist with the administration, promotion, and development of the ISU Cyber Safety Program, supporting awareness campaigns and educational initiatives aimed at protecting athletes online.
  • Safeguarding: Maintain and regularly update safeguarding contact information within Member Federations, support the development and continuous improvement of safeguarding practices, and promote safe sport education initiatives.
  • Athletes Committee: Provide meeting coordination and administrative support, including minute-taking when required.
  • Career/Transitions/Personal Development/Education: Support the coordination and administration of athlete development programs and initiatives that support athlete education, career planning, and life skills development.
  • Retired Athlete/Alumni Support Program: Assist in developing and maintaining a global skating alumni network and creating engagement opportunities and resources for retired athletes.

Sustainability

  • Sustainable Ice Rinks Alliance: Support the planning and coordination of the New Energy for Ice Rinks Conference and related sustainability initiatives.
  • Sustainability Awards & Sustainability Fund: Provide administrative and coordination support for sustainability awards and funding programs.
  • Environmental Sustainability Working Group: Coordinate meetings and provide administrative support, including agenda preparation and minute-taking when required.
  • Reporting: Support sustainability reporting activities and data collection processes, providing administrative assistance for sustainability projects, partnerships, and industry collaboration.

Essential Requirements

  • Experience in athlete welfare, athlete services, sport administration, coaching, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of athlete well-being, including physical health, mental health, safeguarding, and athlete transitions.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of handling sensitive matters professionally and confidentially.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Experience coordinating projects, events, programs, or stakeholder networks.
  • High level of administrative proficiency and attention to detail.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safeguarding, diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of environmental sustainability principles and best practices.
  • Experience supporting sustainability programs, projects, or reporting initiatives.
  • Previous experience working directly with athletes.
  • Personal experience as a current or former athlete.
