Your Mission
Job Description
As a Manufacturing Process Expert, you will be Climeworks’ key expert in the operation of novel manufacturing lines for sorbent filter production during development, startup, and operation. Your responsibilities will include:
- Overseeing all aspects of manufacturing process engineering to produce new sorbent filter material in collaboration with manufacturing engineers and product owners.
- Understanding process parameters and their impact on the product.
- Evaluating and optimizing parameter ranges used in equipment purchases and during startup.
- Leading the ramp-up of manufacturing processes, troubleshooting, and conducting root cause analysis.
- Managing and owning process Failure Mode and Effects Analyses (FMEAs) before, during, and after the startup phase.
- Ensuring proper documentation, training, and knowledge transfer.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
You will collaborate closely with internal experts in R&D, characterization/quality, product design, and sorbent/process development to ensure that manufacturing process parameters guarantee high-quality sorbent module products, while also supporting the development of new testing methods.
External Partnerships & Technical Leadership
As a key technical expert, you will engage with external partners to ensure DAC-specific requirements for sorbent filter manufacturing are met, including on-site monitoring of operations when necessary.
Team Player
When needed, you will support lab-scale manufacturing in R&D and assist in the evaluation of new concepts for future-oriented DAC solutions.
Your Story
Requirements
- Educational Background: A degree in process engineering, manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineering, materials science, or a related field.
- Work Experience: 5-10 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, with substantial involvement in startup phases and successful delivery of commercial products.
- Field Expertise: Experience with continuous manufacturing lines, including powder handling processes (HSE regulations and ATEX requirements).
- Methods: Logic-driven, experienced with process modeling approaches (heat and mass transfer) as well as structured risk-identification and problem-solving tools (e.g., process FMEA, 5 Whys, Fishbone).
- Working Style & Ownership: Demonstrated initiative, results-driven mentality, and hands-on involvement throughout the full development cycle—from lab to high-level evaluations.
- Communication & Project Leadership: Ability to collaborate effectively across teams, communicate clearly, and lead both in-house and external projects.
- Language & Travel Flexibility: Fluent in English, at least B1 in German, and open to frequent travel (up to 60%, primarily between the Munich and Zurich areas). Basic proficiency in French is an advantage.
