Job Description

We are searching for a scientific assistant to assist and coordinate teaching activities in the international master program Spatial Development and Infrastructure Systems. The scientific assistant will engage in developing teaching materials, coordinating teaching activities, and actively teaching spatial planning theory and practice. The ideal candidate should have the ability to navigate spatial planning in Switzerland and make connections to other contexts, engaging with the interface between spatial planning, urban planning, and urban design.

Profile

We are looking for a scientific assistant with:

  • A master’s degree (or near completion) in spatial planning, urban design, urban planning, or urban studies
  • Strong interest in developing and applying pedagogical skills in higher education teaching
  • First experience in academic teaching and supervising theses is an asset
  • Readiness to further advance pedagogical skills through ETH teaching courses
  • Good knowledge of and interest in the Swiss spatial planning system; knowledge of comparative spatial planning is an asset
  • Practical experience in Swiss spatial planning or urban design of at least one year
  • Very good command of written and spoken English and German, as teaching is conducted in both languages
  • Skills and interest in visualization and graphical representation
  • Familiarity with the ETH Zurich system at D-BAUG or D-ARCH is an asset

Workplace

The position focuses on teaching and can be filled at a 30-50% workload (upon negotiation). Please specify your preferred workload when applying. The position is initially limited to 2 years but can be extended up to 6 years. We are searching for a candidate who can start in summer 2026 (June to August).
