JOB PURPOSE

The School Nurse plays a vital role in delivering safe, high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to students, staff, and visitors within our international boarding school and Summer Camp environment. This position encompasses assessing and managing illnesses and injuries, providing emergency and first-aid care, administering medications and treatments, and coordinating with families and external healthcare professionals. The School Nurse is also instrumental in supporting the physical, emotional, and mental well-being of students while prioritizing safeguarding and child protection.

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Professional Nursing Practice

  • Practice in accordance with Swiss nursing regulations, applicable professional standards, Croix-Rouge requirements, and NMC guidance (if applicable).
  • Deliver evidence-based, patient-centered nursing care.
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with Swiss data protection requirements.
  • Uphold professional boundaries and high standards of conduct.
  • Engage in continuing professional development, mandatory training, and safeguarding education.
  • Ensure competence in emergency response, first aid, medication administration, and relevant clinical procedures.

Clinical Nursing Care

  • Provide nursing care to students, staff, and visitors during scheduled shifts.
  • Assess and manage acute and chronic illnesses, injuries, and health conditions.
  • Conduct nursing assessments and develop appropriate care plans.
  • Monitor students' health and identify any signs of deterioration that require intervention or referral.
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments safely while maintaining accurate medication records.
  • Support vaccination programs and infection prevention and control procedures in accordance with Swiss guidance.

On Call and Overnight Nursing

  • Remain on call throughout the scheduled shift to address student health needs.
  • Respond promptly to urgent health matters and provide overnight care for unwell students.
  • Monitor students in the Health Centre and coordinate care with boarding staff as needed.
  • Escalate concerns appropriately to senior clinical staff, parents, and other healthcare professionals.

Individual Student Care

  • Develop and maintain individual health and care plans in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
  • Communicate with parents regarding significant health matters while respecting confidentiality.
  • Support students in managing their ongoing medical and emotional needs.
  • Encourage independence and appropriate self-management of health conditions.

Safeguarding and Child Protection

  • Actively promote the school's Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy.
  • Maintain awareness of potential safeguarding concerns and report them through established procedures.
  • Participate in regular safeguarding training and contribute to a culture of vigilance within the school community.

Health Promotion and Education

  • Promote healthy lifestyles and positive behaviours among students.
  • Provide age-appropriate health education and support school-wide wellbeing initiatives.
  • Engage in health-related discussions, workshops, and clinics.

Medication and Clinical Resources

  • Safely administer, store, and document medications in accordance with regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records of medications and clinical materials.
  • Ensure appropriate storage and disposal of clinical waste and medical supplies.

Administration and Documentation

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records in the school's health database.
  • Complete necessary accident and incident documentation diligently.
  • Assist with Health Centre administration and operational needs.

Health, Safety and Risk Management

  • Promote health and safety within the Health Centre and the wider school environment.
  • Contribute to health-related risk assessments for various school activities.
  • Ensure Health Centre procedures comply with relevant health and safety requirements.

Communication and Multidisciplinary Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively with various school staff and external healthcare professionals to coordinate student care.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings focused on student health and wellbeing.

Working Hours

This position involves scheduled shifts, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and other unsocial hours. Responsibilities include being on call throughout scheduled shifts and providing nursing support during the Summer Camp and other school activities.
