Job Purpose
The role of Deputy School Director is a crucial management and leadership position within the school. As a pivotal member of both the School Council and the Executive Leadership Team (ELT), this role oversees essential aspects of operational management and academic leadership. Working closely with the School Director, CFO/COO, and other Deputy School Directors, the Deputy School Director plays a significant role in promoting Aiglon's distinguished educational philosophy, which emphasizes the holistic development of every child. We are committed to providing an exceptional student experience that prioritizes well-being and safety throughout their journey at Aiglon.
Objectives
- To deputize for the School Director as needed.
- To manage all academic aspects of the school.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
Membership of the School Leadership Team
- Participate in the School Council and ELT.
- Uphold the ethos and values of the school, serving as a role model for staff and students.
- Ensure student needs and interests are prioritized in all decision-making processes.
- Engage fully in whole-school strategic planning and contribute to the development of the school’s educational vision.
- Represent and advocate for all direct reports.
- Collaborate with the School Council to ensure the appropriateness and effectiveness of students’ education across school life.
- Implement school policies and procedures, particularly those related to safeguarding children and young people.
- Comprehend and uphold the School’s Guiding Principles at all times.
Management and Leadership of Academic Aspects
- Monitor and evaluate teaching and learning quality to implement strategies for high performance.
- Oversee the academic reporting structure and assessment plans, monitoring their implementation.
- Advise the School Director on academic policy and lead the overall academic life of the school.
- Act as line manager for the Academic Leadership Group and Heads of Departments.
- Oversee the Learning Support Department and ensure effective provision.
- Collaborate with Assistant Heads to analyze school public examination results.
- Manage student data and academic performance trends, including overseeing analysis and target-setting for examinations.
Leadership of Staffing
- Engage fully in recruiting new academic staff.
- Oversee staff professional development, including training days and workshops.
- Participate in new staff induction programs.
- Work with the Director of Educational Systems to conduct regular performance management reviews for academic staff.
- Manage the school’s PGCE program.
Leadership of Whole-School Accreditation
- Line-manage the Accreditation Coordinator to ensure organized and well-planned accreditation processes.
Management of University Advising
- Line manage the Director of University Advising.
- Keep the School Director and School Council informed about trends and developments in university applications.
- Update the School Council on Year 13 university offers.
Management of Learning Support and Examinations
- Line manage the Head of Learning Support.
- Oversee applications for special consideration with the Head of Learning Support.
- Ensure proper planning and management of internal and external examinations with the Director of Educational Systems.
- Collaborate with Assistant Heads for timely analysis and publication of exam results.
Management of School Events and Marketing Materials
- Coordinate planning and execution of school events with other School Council members.
- Work with the Director of Educational Systems to plan Prize Giving, Graduation, and parent-teacher events efficiently.
- Ensure annual updates of the Aiglon Guide with the School Council.
- Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications team to maintain accurate Aiglon Study Guides for the school community.
Diversity, Equality, and Inclusivity
- Maintain current knowledge of the School’s DEIJ policies and procedures.
Safeguarding
- Stay updated on safeguarding legislation and School policies, liaising closely with the Safeguarding lead.
Health and Safety
- Ensure awareness and compliance with health and safety legislation relevant to the role.
Professional Development
- Continuously update personal skills and knowledge in line with legislative changes and role requirements.
General Responsibilities
- Be actively involved in staff recruitment as required by the School Director.
- Be available out of hours for emergency situations.
- Attend school functions and events to support students and staff.
- Teach in your specialist area with a reduced load.
- Participate in the duty rota of School Council members on certain weekends.
- Be part of the Critical Incident team.
- Undertake other reasonable tasks as delegated by the School Director.
