Job Purpose

This is a live-in residential role requiring the post holder to ensure the safety, welfare, and security of students in collaboration with the Houseparent (HP) and House team. The responsibilities encompass a variety of tasks that demand initiative and common sense, catering to student needs with a generous spirit.

Key Skills and Qualities

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have a genuine affinity for young people and the ability to demonstrate good judgment.
  • Exhibit excellent interpersonal skills with students and their families, characterized by effective listening, flexibility, reliability, warmth, and friendliness.
  • Possess sensitivity to handle situations with tact and diplomacy, along with a positive sense of humor.
  • Maintain physical fitness and stamina to perform the role effectively.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

The RAHP role includes a variety of responsibilities, such as:

  • Providing general residential support
  • Acting as a tutor for a small group of students, offering individual guidance and support in academic and pastoral areas
  • Supporting teaching or coaching staff in areas like drama, music, sports, or other special interests
  • Assisting the Houseparent in promoting student welfare and the smooth operations of the House
  • Participating in various boarding and school supervision duties as required
  • Maintaining health records in line with Health Centre guidance

Working Schedule

Residential Assistant Houseparents will work 4 afternoons and 2 evenings a week, as well as approximately 2 weekends out of 3. A standard weekend begins at the end of school on Friday and concludes Monday morning, with one weekday off each week which varies by House based on the timetable of the Houseparent.
