Job Purpose

This is a live-in residential position responsible for the safeguarding, welfare, and security of students, working alongside the Houseparent and House team. The role requires a generous spirit, responsiveness to the students' needs, and the ability to take initiative and demonstrate common sense.

The ideal candidate will possess an understanding of young people, good personal interaction skills, and the ability to foster effective communication with students and their parents or guardians. Reliability, warmth, friendliness, and sensitivity are essential traits for this position, along with a good sense of humor and the capacity to remain calm and cooperative under pressure.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

The role encompasses a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to:

  • General residential support
  • Acting as a tutor for a small group of students, offering individual guidance in academic and pastoral areas
  • Supporting teaching or coaching staff in areas such as drama, music, sports, or other specialized interests
  • Assisting the Houseparent in promoting student welfare and smooth house operations
  • Residential and administrative duties within the house
  • Supervising weekday and weekend duties, including morning and evening responsibilities
  • Overnight supervision and medication management
  • Contributing to the co-curricular programme and attending training or support meetings as required

Work Schedule

Residential Assistant Houseparents typically work 4 afternoons, 2 evenings per week, and are required to support approximately 2 out of 3 weekends. Each workweek is structured to include one weekday off, varying based on the Houseparent's timetable.

Professional Conduct

It is imperative that the post holder remains cognizant of the School's safeguarding guidelines and maintains appropriate professional relationships with students. You will be required to understand and implement all school policies and procedures, particularly those related to safeguarding children and young people.
