Job Opportunity at the Central Animal Facility
The Central Animal Facility (CAF) is the largest facility of the Experimental Animal Center (EAC) at the University of Bern, Switzerland. We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced individual to join our team.
Responsibilities
- Direct the operation of the Central Animal Facility, overseeing processes, finances, and personnel management.
- Provide veterinary clinical, surgical, and medical care to the animal population.
- Supervise hygiene and monitoring programs.
- Manage animal stock using a comprehensive database system.
- Plan and participate in emergency, weekend, and holiday care.
- Write, update, and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Advise researchers on genetically modified mouse breeding and research procedures.
- Ensure compliance with the Animal Welfare Act, university directives, and process specifications.
- Participate in building renovation projects.
- Support the ECLAM residency program and provide internal education.
Qualifications
- Doctorate in veterinary medicine with specialization in laboratory animal medicine (ECLAM/ACLAM diploma or board eligibility).
- Practical experience in the breeding of genetically modified models; experience with fish or zebrafish is a plus.
- Proven management experience and leadership skills in complex structures.
- Team-oriented, goal-driven, with excellent communication skills.
- Fluency in English; proficiency in German is an advantage.
