Hardware Integration Engineer

Roche Switzerland bridges the worlds of pharmaceuticals and diagnostics, with key research and development functions based here. We are currently seeking a Hardware Integration Engineer for our esteemed client, Roche Diagnostics International AG, located in Rotkreuz.

Background

As a member of our Hardware Integration team, you will play a vital role in ensuring that complex interactions between electronics, mechanics, firmware, and software culminate in seamless and reliable diagnostic products. In this position, you will work at the critical intersection of hardware and software, focusing on mechatronics by actively checking and parameterizing physical hardware, interacting directly with firmware, and bridging gaps between disciplines within R&D and various teams such as production and customer support. You will engage in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment, serving as the primary point of contact for complex mechatronic issue analysis, helping to identify weaknesses early, and integrating diagnostic 'hooks' directly into our design.

The Perfect Candidate

The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Systems, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related field. They will possess:

  • Five years of hands-on experience in hardware/software integration, system-level testing, or mechatronic troubleshooting.
  • A strong understanding of mechatronics, including the interaction between mechanics and electronics.
  • Experience in scripting or programming for test automation and proficiency in a Linux environment.
  • While not mandatory, experience in a regulated industry such as MedTech, Diagnostics, IVD, or GxP is highly desirable.

Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Driving System Integration & Integrity: Lead the physical and logical integration of hardware and software modules into a cohesive, high-performing system.
  • Hardware Parametrization & Firmware Interaction: Define critical parameters, configure test software, and optimize firmware and software for smooth and reliable operation.
  • Proactive Robustness & Endurance Testing: Design and arrange advanced electromechanical test setups, long-term trials, and reliability tests to explore system limits under real-world conditions.
  • Transforming Data into Insight: Supervise parameters, track hardware counters, and analyze data logs to convert raw observations into actionable improvements.
  • Collaborative Troubleshooting & Root-Cause Analysis: Engage across teams to perform deep-dive troubleshooting and resolve mechatronic issues with fact-based solutions.
  • Bridge-Building across R&D and Operations: Act as a technical partner ensuring the smooth transfer of robust, validated mechatronic designs to global manufacturing and service partners.

Must Haves

  • A BSc/MSc degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline.
  • 5 years of hands-on experience in HW/SW integration, unit- and system-level testing, or mechatronic troubleshooting.
  • Experience in a regulated environment (such as MedTech, Diagnostics, IVD, or GxP) is a strong advantage.

Technical Toolkit

  • Deep understanding of mechatronics and its interaction with firmware and software.
  • Experience in scripting or programming for test execution and automation.
  • Comfort and experience working in a Linux environment.

Mindset

The candidate should be a curious investigator who enjoys uncovering the workings of complex systems. A strong interest in emerging technologies and eagerness to explore how AI-assisted tools can enhance hardware testing and data analysis is essential. The individual must work precisely and persistently while communicating technical findings with empathy and clarity to foster collaborative solutions. Fluency in English is required, and proficiency in German is a valuable asset for local collaboration.

What We Offer

  • The opportunity to contribute to one of the world's leading pharmaceutical companies.
  • A modern campus with extensive green spaces and collaborative areas.
  • A central location with convenient motorway access and proximity to train stations.
  • A varied and engaging range of responsibilities.
  • The option to work from home.
