Job opportunity
Location: Zurich, Fixed-term Position, 10%-30% workload
At the Energy and Process Systems Engineering (EPSE) group, we develop automated experimental setups for measuring vapor-liquid equilibria (VLE), liquid-liquid equilibria (LLE), and diffusion coefficients—key data essential for the design and optimization of chemical processes. Given that conventional experiments can often be time-consuming and resource-intensive, particularly for multicomponent mixtures, our group is pioneering miniaturized systems that utilize in-situ Raman spectroscopy to swiftly determine phase compositions in small sample volumes.
The current project aims to further advance our automated platforms for measuring thermophysical properties. We are integrating sample preparation, sample handling, and fully automated execution of equilibrium and transport-property experiments, employing milli- and microfluidic setups in conjunction with Raman spectroscopy. The automatically generated data are vital for the accelerated design of innovative chemical processes, such as plastic recycling.
We are seeking an ETH student eager to engage in designing and constructing experimental setups, executing experiments, and supporting various general lab tasks starting around February 2026. Responsibilities include:
At EPSE, you will be part of a dynamic and motivated research team focusing on sustainability in energy and chemical process systems. We are committed to developing methods that enhance sustainable energy and chemical systems from a molecular level to a larger scale.
In alignment with our principles, ETH Zurich fosters an inclusive culture. We advocate for equality of opportunity, value diversity, and cultivate a working environment where the rights and dignity of all our staff and students are respected. Sustainability is a core value, and we continuously strive towards a climate-neutral future.
