Position Overview

This position reports to the Engineering Manager.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on design, implementation, upgrades, and retrofit activities to expand ABB’s 800xA DCS and AC800M-based process control systems, along with auxiliary systems for plant automation applications.

Focusing on cybersecurity, you will serve as the design authority for the process automation portion of projects in a cost-effective manner.

You will also demonstrate your expertise by applying basic design thinking/design for excellence concepts in your projects. Collaborating with other teams, you will integrate the latest solutions developed within ABB into plant automation, electrical integration, and energy management systems.

This role will contribute to the Process Industries division in Switzerland.

Main Responsibilities

• Plan and engineer the integration of automation systems, primarily in the mining industry and minerals processing.
• Conduct quality inspections, factory acceptance tests, and oversee the commissioning of our solutions at customer sites while assisting in resolving technical issues.
• Collaborate with engineering peers across multiple locations and support project managers in technical reviews and discussions with customers, partners, subcontractors, and vendors.
• Provide technical details and cost calculations for sales proposals.

Your Background

• Bachelor's or master's degree in engineering fields such as electrical, mechatronics, automation, or systems engineering, with a focus on Industrial IT and automation systems.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in industrial control systems or automation, including commissioning experience with process DCS systems (SW and HW) such as ABB 800xA or similar.
• Knowledge of TCP/IP networks, communication, and fieldbus protocols like Profibus/Net, Modbus TCP/RTU, OPC, along with a solid understanding of cybersecurity practices according to the IEC 62443 standard framework.
• Familiarity with energy distribution concepts, electrical networks, and related equipment.
• A self-motivated individual with a high level of curiosity and a commitment to learning about new technologies, as well as a collaborative, solution-oriented approach.
• Excellent technical communication skills and business fluency in English (both written and spoken); basic German language skills are advantageous.
• Willingness to travel for worldwide commissioning and service activities (30%).
