Job Description

Are you ready to go beyond understanding thin-film processes and actively develop and improve them? As a Process Development Engineer, you will design processes in the PVD and plasma environment from the ground up - from initial experiments to stable application. You will work hands-on with advanced coating systems and bring new material systems to reality while shaping the next generation of coating technologies in a strong R&D environment.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Develop processes: design and optimize thin-film processes (e.g. PVD, sputtering, plasma), including layer stacks, targets, and process parameters.
  • Work hands-on: operate coating equipment and pilot setups, performing experiments independently.
  • Drive innovation: lead development projects from feasibility studies through process validation.
  • Ensure performance: analyze process stability, uniformity, and material properties and translate them into robust, repeatable processes.
  • Collaborate closely: work with customers, partners, and internal hardware and engineering teams.

What You Should Bring

  • Educational background: Master's or PhD in materials science, physics, or a related field.
  • Experience: 3-5 years of experience in thin-film or vacuum process development (e.g. semiconductor, optics, coating).
  • Methods expertise: confident in applying Design of Experiments (DoE) and working data-driven.
  • Technical knowledge: understanding of thin-film physics, plasma behavior, and material interactions.
  • Work authorization: valid Swiss work permit or existing authorization to work in Switzerland.
