100%, Basel, fixed-term
We are developing cutting-edge lab-on-chip technology (or microfluidic technology) for applications across the life sciences and biomedicine. Our interdisciplinary approach encompasses the design and manufacturing of miniaturized platforms and their optimization for biochemical assays and analytical procedures.
For a third-party funded project lasting four years, we are offering a PhD position and a postdoctoral position.
The RadiantDx project is a multidisciplinary initiative aimed at enhancing the diagnosis of sepsis. Sepsis is a critical health condition characterized by vague symptoms such as high fever. To assist healthcare professionals in determining the appropriate course of treatment, we aim to develop a miniaturized system for the rapid diagnosis of sepsis. This system will help prevent unnecessary administration of antibiotics, ultimately leading to improved patient survival and recovery. In collaboration with researchers from the Institute of Medical Microbiology at the University of Zurich, the Department of Informatics at ETH Zurich, and several other partners, we are tackling this challenge by integrating microfluidic technology with sequencing and fast data analysis.
Within the Bioanalytics Group, the PhD student and postdoctoral fellow will collaborate on various aspects of the microfluidic platform and sample preparation.
The PhD student and postdoctoral fellow will work collaboratively on the following tasks:
