Join Zurich Instruments as a Senior Supply & Production Planner
Zurich Instruments, a technology leader in advanced test and measurement instruments and control electronics for quantum computing, is on a mission to advance science and build the next generation of quantum computers. Our products are utilized in various challenging research fields by scientists and leading high-tech companies around the globe.
Your Role
As the Senior Supply & Production Planner, you will serve as the vital link between demand and the availability of materials and capacity. You will translate forecast-driven and order-driven demand into procurement plans, create executable production plans, and anticipate capacity gaps on a rolling 6-month horizon. Working closely with Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Business Fulfillment, R&D, and our suppliers, you will be the go-to reference for the pivotal question: "When can we build and ship this?"
Your Responsibilities
- Translate the rolling demand forecast for the series-production line into a 3–6 month procurement plan with suppliers, while maintaining planning parameters such as lead times, safety stocks, reorder points, and lot sizes in the ERP system.
- Develop a procurement plan for our project-based business, identify long-lead components for preventive purchases, and quantify each commitment for approval.
- Execute the MRP cycle, converting requirements into purchase orders, and monitor material readiness by project, escalating delivery risks as necessary.
- Issue weekly production plans, create and manage manufacturing orders, and coordinate internal logistics to ensure timely picking and staging of materials.
- Maintain accurate planning master data (BOMs, routings, work center capacities) in collaboration with Manufacturing Engineering and R&D, while confirming feasible dates to Business Fulfillment and Sales.
- Assess production capacity on a rolling 6-month horizon, identify bottlenecks early, and recommend measures such as load leveling, build-ahead, or outsourcing.
- Manage planning processes in the ERP and report essential KPIs: on-time delivery, material shortages, inventory coverage, forecast accuracy, and capacity load.
Your Profile
- Technical or commercial education (HF, FH, or BSc) in supply chain, industrial engineering, or a comparable field; a planning certification (e.g., APICS CPIM) is an advantage.
- 5-10 years of planning experience in a high-mix/low-volume electronics or precision instrumentation environment.
- Solid ERP planning skills: MRP (Material Requirements Planning) and MPS (Master Production Scheduling), manufacturing orders, and capacity planning; experience with Odoo is a plus.
- Ability to work effectively with both forecast-driven and order-driven project planning logic concurrently.
- Strong analytical skills with confidence in data handling and proficiency in Excel.
- Capacity to make decisions under uncertainty and support decisions with data-driven justifications.
- Excellent communication skills across manufacturing, supply chain, sales, and suppliers.
- Fluent in English; proficiency in German is a significant advantage.
