Role Overview

Balyasny Asset Management is seeking an exceptional Analyst to join our Oil portfolio team in Switzerland, with openings in either Geneva or Zug. This represents a unique opportunity to engage in cutting-edge research at a leading hedge fund, providing hands-on experience at the intersection of fundamental investing and data analysis. As a vital member of our team, you will play a significant role in shaping and advancing our oil trading operations.

Overview

You will support our oil trading team through fundamental analysis, quantitative modeling, risk monitoring, and trade execution. This role involves translating market data and supply-demand balances into actionable insights across derivative markets.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain oil supply-and-demand balances.
  • Analyze refinery runs, inventories, vessel movements, arbitrage economics, weather, power demand, and macro drivers.
  • Develop trade views across cracks, time spreads, geographical spreads, crude spreads, and flat price.
  • Build and enhance models, dashboards, and trading signals using Python, SQL, and Excel.
  • Monitor P&L, positions, exposures, and daily risk.
  • Produce concise market commentary and clearly communicate trade ideas.

Requirements

  • 5-7 years of relevant experience.
  • Degree in economics, finance, engineering, mathematics, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • Experience in oil markets, including fuel oil and crude.
  • Strong understanding of physical oil markets, supply-demand fundamentals, and derivatives.
  • Proficiency in Python, SQL, and Excel.
  • Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and commercial judgment.
  • Able to work effectively in a fast-paced trading environment.
  • Must be based in Geneva or Zug.
