Job Overview
This position focuses on providing holistic, evidence-based best practice care to a private individual, addressing all of her needs in a positive, person-centered manner. The individual is currently diagnosed with dementia, age-related frailties, and may have other health co-morbidities that require attention.
Key Responsibilities
The post-holder will be required to:
- Assess, plan, develop, and implement care programmes; offer advice; and maintain associated records, both manually and digitally.
- Carry out nursing procedures as necessary, in accordance with clinical guidelines.
- Provide clinical supervision to other staff members.
The post-holder will direct, coordinate, and supervise the work of other team members, promoting best practices in caring for the client with dementia. In the absence of the team leader, the post-holder will ensure effective delivery of care and raise any issues with the line manager.
Qualifications / Essential Requirements
- Swiss or EU passport (or Swiss working permit holder).
- Registered Nurse with valid NMC registration or an equivalent European/Swiss qualification.
- Nursing degree or equivalent.
- Completion of Best Practice in Dementia Training or willingness to pursue it.
- Willingness to undergo specific dementia training, such as Best Practice in Dementia Care, in English.
- Additional qualifications related to dementia and associated topics, including stress and distress training, meaningful activity, and Sage and Thyme.
- Understanding of the Newcastle Model and/or PINCHME model of behavior assessment.
- Willingness to develop dementia knowledge as part of continuing professional development (CPD) either independently or through the organization.
- Specialist dementia qualification or further studies in related fields.
- Understanding behavior as communication and strong knowledge of non-pharmacological interventions and strategies.
- Experience in End of Life Care and ability to develop relevant clinical skills to address any arising co-morbidities.

Language / Essential
- Effective communication skills in English; ideally, English is the first language, with local dialect knowledge (Central Scotland).
- Excellent written communication skills in English.
- Due to the nature of dementia, it's critical to communicate effectively; failure to do so can adversely affect the client’s quality of life, leading to increased stress and distressed behavior.
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience working with individuals diagnosed with dementia.

- Effective listening, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Able to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Basic technological proficiency.

Specific Job Requirements
- Ability to commit to working a shift pattern based in Buckinghamshire, UK, and Switzerland for extended periods (preferably 10-14 days); travel with the client in the UK may be necessary.
- Unsociable hours may be included, such as a sleepover arrangement alternating nights with another staff member during the shift period.
- May involve accompanying the client to various venues as part of the duties.
- Maintain a professional manner appropriate to the social standing of the client.
- Confidentiality must be upheld according to NMC requirements and organizational policies; a confidentiality agreement will be provided separately.
- Understanding of the culture local to the client and their family, as increased stress can occur during the progression of dementia, leading to unnecessary pharmacological interventions.
- Housekeeping is also an essential responsibility of this position.
