Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate professional to provide holistic, evidence-based best practice care to a private individual. This role focuses on ensuring all needs are addressed in a positive, person-centered manner. The individual currently requires support due to a dementia diagnosis, age-related frailties, and any other health co-morbidities that may arise.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be required to:

  • Assess, plan, develop, and implement comprehensive care programs while maintaining associated records, either manually or digitally.
  • Carry out nursing procedures in accordance with clinical guidelines.
  • Provide clinical supervision to other staff members.
  • Direct, coordinate, and supervise the work of other staff to promote best practices in the care of clients with dementia.
  • Provide coverage in the absence of the team leader to ensure effective care delivery.
  • Raise any issues with the line manager promptly.

Qualifications / Essential Requirements

  • Swiss or EU passport (or valid Swiss working permit).
  • Registered Nurse with valid NMC registration or equivalent European/Swiss qualifications.
  • Nursing degree or equivalent.
  • Completion of Best Practice in Dementia Training or a willingness to undertake this training.
  • Willingness to pursue additional dementia-related training in English.
  • Additional qualifications related to dementia, including topics such as stress and distress training and meaningful activity.
  • Understanding of the Newcastle Model and/or PINCHME model of behavior assessment.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development in dementia care.
  • Specialist dementia qualification or further studies in related areas.
  • Understanding of behavior as communication and a strong knowledge of non-pharmacological interventions.
  • Experience in end-of-life care and developing relevant clinical skills to address co-morbidities.

Qualifications / Additional Requirements

  • Experience as a Moving and Handling Trainer.
  • Qualifications in Beauty/Massage Therapy.
  • Skills in facilitating Meaningful Activity.

Language Skills / Essential

  • Effective communication in English, ideally as a first language.
  • Excellent written English communication skills.
  • A deep understanding of the impact of dementia on communication, and the ability to mitigate stress and distressed behavior through effective interaction.

Experience

A minimum of 5 years' experience working with individuals with dementia is required.

  • Strong team-working abilities combined with the initiative to work independently.
  • Excellent listening, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Aptitude for collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Outstanding time management skills.
  • Basic technology proficiency.
  • Teaching skills for junior staff, families, and other professionals.
  • Female candidates are preferred for this role.

Specific Job Requirements

  • Commitment to a shift pattern based in Buckinghamshire, UK, and Switzerland for extended periods (preferably 10-14 days).
  • Flexibility to work unsociable hours, including sleepover arrangements with other staff members.
  • May involve accompanying the client to various venues as part of the duties.
  • Professional conduct and presentation appropriate to the social status of the client.
  • Maintain confidentiality in line with NMC requirements and organizational policies; a confidentiality agreement will be provided separately.
  • Understanding of the cultural context of dementia care to reduce stress and distress for the client.
  • Housekeeping responsibilities form a key aspect of this position.
