Job Purpose
The role is vital in ensuring the integrity, confidentiality, and security of the external examination process.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- Conduct examinations in strict adherence to the regulations and guidelines of Aiglon College and the relevant exam boards, including the International Baccalaureate (IB), Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ), and Cambridge International Education (CIE).
- Ensure all candidates have equal opportunities to demonstrate their abilities.
- Safeguard examination materials before, during, and after examinations.
- Prevent potential candidate malpractice and administrative errors.
Invigilators must:
- Declare any previous invigilation experience and any current maladministration/malpractice sanctions.
- Understand and implement school policies and procedures, particularly those related to child safeguarding.
- Confirm availability in advance of major examination periods.
- Maintain a solid understanding of current exam board regulations and guidelines by studying all materials provided by the Exams Officer.
- Complete relevant online invigilator training before the start of each new academic year as directed by the Exams Officer.
Main Duties in Detail
Before Examinations
- Report to and be briefed by the Exams Officer prior to each exam session.
- Keep confidential exam question papers and materials secure before, during, and after exams.
- Ensure exam rooms are set up according to requirements.
- Admit candidates into exam rooms under formal examination conditions.
- Conduct examinations with full attention to detail.
- Identify and seat candidates according to required arrangements.
- Distribute correct question papers and exam materials to candidates.
- Instruct candidates in the conduct of their exams.
- Address candidate inquiries.
- Start exams punctually.
During Examinations
- Supervise and observe candidates at all times, maintaining vigilance throughout.
- Minimize disruption in examination rooms.
- Effectively deal with emergencies or irregularities.
- Record and report any incidents, disruptions, or irregularities.
- Complete attendance registers.
- Respond to candidate inquiries in accordance with regulations.
After Examinations
- Instruct candidates on how to conclude their exams and collect examination scripts and materials.
- Dismiss candidates from the examination room appropriately.
- Verify that candidates’ names on scripts match the details on the attendance register.
- Securely return all examination scripts and materials to the Exams Officer.
Other Tasks and Responsibilities
As required, perform additional duties assigned by the Exams Officer, such as:
- Supervising candidates with exam timetable clashes between sessions.
- Providing support to candidates with access arrangements, including reading and scribing (full training will be provided).
- Assisting with other exam-related administrative tasks to maintain question paper security.
- Undertaking any other reasonably required tasks by the Studies Department.
- Understanding and implementing all school policies and procedures, especially those related to safeguarding children and young people.
- Upholding the School’s Guiding Principles and ethos at all times.
Person Specification: Exams Invigilator
Experience and Knowledge
Desirable:
- Direct experience of invigilation is desirable but not required, as training in the role and duties of an invigilator will be provided.

- Available to invigilate full mornings (approx. 08:15 - 13:00) or full afternoons (approx. 12:30 - 17:30), preferably for whole days.
