Job Purpose
To play a crucial role in maintaining the integrity, confidentiality, and security of the external examination process.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
As an Exams Invigilator, your role will encompass the following key responsibilities:
- Conduct examinations in strict adherence to the regulations and guidelines of Aiglon College and the relevant exam boards, including the International Baccalaureate (IB), Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ), and Cambridge International Education (CIE).
- Ensure all candidates have an equal opportunity to demonstrate their abilities.
- Safeguard examination materials before, during, and after examinations.
- Prevent potential candidate malpractice and administrative errors.
Invigilators must:
- Declare any previous invigilation experience and any current maladministration/malpractice sanctions.
- Understand and implement school policies and procedures, especially those related to child safeguarding.
- Confirm availability in advance of major examination periods.
- Possess a good level of knowledge of current exam board regulations and guidelines by studying all materials provided by the Exams Officer.
- Complete relevant online invigilator training before the start of each new academic year as directed by the Exams Officer.
Main Duties in Detail
Before Examinations
- Report to and be briefed by the Exams Officer prior to each exam session.
- Keep confidential exam question papers and materials secure before, during, and after exams.
- Ensure exam rooms are set up according to the requirements.
- Admit candidates into exam rooms under formal examination conditions.
- Give full attention to conducting the examinations properly.
- Identify and seat candidates according to the required arrangements.
- Distribute the correct question papers and exam materials to candidates.
- Instruct candidates in the conduct of their exams.
- Deal with candidate questions.
- Start exams.
During Examinations
- Supervise and observe candidates at all times while being vigilant throughout examinations.
- Keep disruption in examination rooms to a minimum.
- Effectively deal with emergencies or irregularities.
- Record/report any incidents, disruptions, or irregularities.
- Complete attendance registers.
- Handle candidate questions according to the regulations.
After Examinations
- Instruct candidates on finishing their exams and collect examination scripts and materials.
- Dismiss candidates from the examination room.
- Check that candidates’ names on scripts match the details on the attendance register.
- Securely return all examination scripts and materials to the Exams Officer.
Other Tasks and Responsibilities
As required, perform additional duties assigned by the Exams Officer, including, but not limited to:
- Supervising candidates with exam timetable clashes between sessions.
- Providing support to candidates with access arrangements, including reading and scribing (full training will be provided).
- Assisting with other exam-related administrative tasks, such as maintaining question paper security.
- Undertaking any other task reasonably required by the Studies Department.
- Understanding and implementing all school policies and procedures, particularly those relating to safeguarding children and young people.
- Upholding the ethos of the School and its Guiding Principles at all times.

Experience and Knowledge
- Direct experience of invigilation is desirable but not required, as training in the role and the duties of an invigilator will be provided.

- Available to invigilate for whole mornings (approximately 08:15-13:00) or whole afternoons (approximately 12:30-17:30) or preferably for entire days.
