Engineering Manager, Computer Vision Data and Ground Truth Tools / Engineering Manageress, Computer Vision Data and Ground Truth Tools

Magic Leap Switzerland GmbH Zürich December 15, 2025

A New Paradigm of Computing

Magic Leap is a pioneer in Augmented Reality (AR) optics, display systems, platforms, devices, services, prototyping, and manufacturing capabilities. Renowned for our unmatched optics stack, we have developed ultra-lightweight waveguides and display systems that push the boundaries of AR. With over a decade of experience in AR innovation, we have made groundbreaking advancements in text legibility, color fidelity, and rich digital content visuals while continually expanding the field of view to create engaging, immersive AR experiences.

If you aspire to be part of a united team where everyone is empowered and trusted to make an impact, Magic Leap could be the right place for you. Here, you can explore innovative solutions and leverage your talents to address real-world challenges. Collaborating with industry experts will allow you to grow your skills while contributing to making our technology accessible to millions as a partner in the mixed reality (XR) ecosystem. We believe that diverse perspectives drive successful change and progress. As we shape our future, every voice matters. Together, we can reimagine the world of work and, through our bold partnerships, make the impossible possible.

The Opportunity

As the manager leading an engineering team of four within the Perception group, you will be responsible for the systems that collect essential real-world sensor data, including ground truth, from our XR devices. This data is crucial for the development and validation of various perception features such as head tracking, eye tracking, depth estimation, and object tracking. You will bridge leadership with hands-on technical contributions—defining technical strategy, setting roadmaps with internal stakeholders, architecting data collection tooling, and writing production code while mentoring a cross-disciplinary engineering team. Additionally, you will oversee two data collection labs with equipment such as OptiTrack, LiDARs, and robot arms in different geographic regions.

This position requires a seasoned, versatile engineer who can operate autonomously, create opportunities, balance strategic planning with tactical execution, and cultivate talent while driving technical excellence.

Important: You will lead a distributed team across Europe and the US, requiring flexibility across multiple time zones. This is a hybrid role but requires close proximity to our Zurich office, and occasional travel is necessary.

What You’ll Do

  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for internal clients, proactively aligning data delivery roadmaps with business needs.
  • Design, develop, and maintain hardware and software solutions for ground truth data collection in collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain production software in Python and C++ as the lead developer.
  • Maintain strategic oversight of the vendor landscape for hardware and software tooling, evaluating and selecting optimal solutions.
  • Orchestrate data collection operations with internal teams and external data collectors.
  • Set technical direction and priorities for a cross-disciplinary computer vision team.
  • Mentor and coach team members with technical depth and empathy, supporting their professional growth and career development.

The Experience You Bring

  • Bachelor's / Master’s degree in Computer Science, Robotics, or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of professional software development experience in Python and C++.
  • 3+ years of experience in geometric computer vision.
  • 3+ years of technical leadership experience managing and mentoring engineering teams.
  • Proven track record in system architecture involving hardware and software.
  • Proven track record managing cross-functional projects with multiple stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate with high autonomy in ambiguous environments.

It’s Exciting If You Also Have

  • Experience with camera calibration, bundle adjustment, and hand-eye calibration techniques.
  • Hands-on experience with OptiTrack or similar motion capture systems.
  • Background in XR/AR/VR development.
  • Experience integrating and calibrating LiDAR sensors.
  • Strong rapid prototyping skills for hardware and software systems.
