Job Objectives

Science that never leaves the lab changes nothing. As the Applied Experience Science Manager, you will integrate validated experience science into live product, brand, innovation, marketing, and consumer journey initiatives—early enough to impact design rather than just evaluation. You will translate ambiguous business questions into clearly defined experience challenges and opportunities, select the scientific mechanisms that best explain them, specify the interventions or experience changes needed, design a validation approach, and produce clear decision recommendations. A successful output goes beyond interesting insights; it results in well-defined problems or opportunities, specified solutions, credible outcome evidence, and explicit recommendations for moving forward, stopping, or redesigning.

You will achieve this as an expert individual contributor, influencing without formal authority while collaborating with external experts, agencies, and research partners to gather the evidence needed for informed decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Lead product development projects across Heated Tobacco, Nicotine Pouches, and emerging product platforms.
  • Translate consumer, sensory, and business insights into product development opportunities.
  • Collaborate closely with Research & Development (R&D), Scientific Regulatory Affairs (SRA), Brand teams, and Project Management Office (PMO) stakeholders.
  • Drive improvements in product development methodologies, processes, and ways of working.
  • Lead product evaluation activities and provide data-based recommendations for portfolio and product decisions.
  • Coordinate project plans, timelines, deliverables, and stakeholder alignment across multiple initiatives.
  • Work with external suppliers, agencies, and development partners to support innovation objectives.

Qualifications

Experience and Skills

7+ years of experience applying scientific evidence or human behavior understanding to real-world business, product, brand, marketing, innovation, service, digital, or consumer journey challenges and opportunities. Proven ability to translate scientific theory, mechanisms, and evidence into practical solutions such as directions, interventions, prototypes, experiments, or implementation guidance. Experience with validation logic, experimental design, pilot design, mixed-method research, or evidence-based iteration, with clear success criteria and decision implications. Experience leading cross-functional initiatives and managing external experts, agencies, or research partners, ideally in a regulated, science-led, or consumer-facing industry.

Education and Training

A BSc in a relevant applied scientific or research-related field such as behavioral science, psychology, cognitive science, consumer science, experience research, design research, human factors, or decision science—or another STEM discipline with significant applied experience. An advanced degree is preferred.

Language and Computer Skills

Excellent English language skills are essential.

Behavioral Competencies

You have actively contributed to infusing a real business team or project—in product, marketing, innovation, or a similar setting—with scientific understanding, demonstrating the increased impact that resulted. You have reframed a vague brief into a sharper problem or opportunity, selected relevant mechanisms, specified interventions, and linked them to measurable consumer and business outcomes. You have designed or led pilots with explicit success and failure criteria, translating results into decisions while distinguishing between stakeholder satisfaction and tangible impact. You communicate scientific rationale in accessible language without undermining its integrity or obscuring uncertainty.

Above all, you blend scientific depth with pragmatism and follow-through. This is not science for its own sake: you engage early, remain involved through implementation, and always focus on the applications and outcomes your work aims to improve.
