Summary

The Novartis Strategy & Growth Therapeutic Area Strategy team for Neuroscience is seeking a dedicated Therapeutic Area Strategy Director. This individual will support the creation and ongoing refinement of a comprehensive therapeutic area strategy, provide early-phase commercial insights to project teams, guide therapeutic area-specific internal pipeline development, and identify external licensing or acquisition opportunities. The role also emphasizes integrated alignment across Biomedical Research (BR), Development, Strategy & Growth (S&G), and the Commercial divisions in both the US and international markets.

About the Role

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver external benchmarking, analysis, and insights to support the TA Strategy Head in developing a holistic Novartis TA strategy that achieves sustainable growth in the short, mid, and long-term.
  • Utilize a strong understanding of the pharmaceutical industry and core Therapeutic Areas, particularly in Neuroscience, to derive insightful and competitive advantages.
  • Provide essential commercial insights to R&D project teams, emphasizing early-phase programs. In-market experience in the US is crucial for this task.
  • Analyze reports and publications to extract key messages, including the development of product forecasts.
  • Support the creation and delivery of TA-specific strategic external insights to identify growth opportunities and address emerging competitive challenges.

Essential Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree (PhD, MD, or equivalent experience in life sciences/healthcare) and/or MBA preferred.
  • In-depth therapeutic area knowledge in Neuroscience or the ability to rapidly acquire this expertise.
  • Demonstrated agility in supporting multiple strategic disease areas and programs, both internal and external.
  • Significant experience in evaluating new product opportunities through M&A, BD&L, and internal research programs.
  • At least 5-7 years in the pharmaceutical or medical device industry, with experience in Research & Development and/or commercial functions.
  • Experience in strategy development and asset shaping during the early lifecycle phases.
  • Recent (post-2015) in-market experience in the US, including work within US healthcare systems.
