We are specifically looking to recruit a PostDoc for the Quantitative Visual Physiology group at IOB. This group stands at a unique intersection: it combines access to human, primate, and rodent retinal tissues with advanced quantitative tools and fosters close collaboration with clinicians at the "Augenspital" Basel. If you're eager to explore fundamental questions about how the visual system encodes information and how this knowledge can be applied to assist patients, this is the right place for you.
In this role, you will develop and lead projects related to the physiology of vision through experimental approaches, including electrophysiology, data analysis, and computational methodologies. Possible techniques employed in this position include ex vivo electrophysiology of human, primate, pig, and mouse retina, in vivo recordings in mice, electroretinograms on both mice and humans, as well as psychophysics using virtual reality headsets. You will combine experimental techniques with essential data analysis and computational interpretation of results, including population decoding, computational modeling of retinal circuits, and biophysical modeling. One potential research avenue is to investigate the biophysics of signal generation in electroretinograms and explore how multielectrode recordings and novel light stimulus designs can enhance the signal-to-noise ratio.
