At the Energy and Process Systems Engineering (EPSE) group, we develop automated experimental setups for measuring vapor-liquid equilibria (VLE), liquid-liquid equilibria (LLE), and diffusion coefficients—key data for designing and optimizing chemical processes. Conventional experiments can be time- and resource-intensive, especially for multicomponent mixtures. Therefore, our group is pioneering miniaturized systems that utilize in-situ Raman spectroscopy to quickly determine phase compositions from small sample volumes.
The current project focuses on the advancement of our automated platforms for measuring thermophysical properties. We aim to integrate sample preparation, handling, and fully automated execution of equilibrium and transport-property experiments, using milli- and microfluidic setups along with Raman spectroscopy. The data generated from these experiments are crucial for the accelerated design of innovative chemical processes, such as plastic recycling.
