Roche’s Research and Early Development organizations at Genentech (gRED) and Pharma (pRED) harness these technologies to accelerate R&D, utilizing data and innovative computational models to make impactful changes. Efficient data sharing and access to models across gRED and pRED are critical in maximizing these opportunities.

The new Computational Sciences Center of Excellence (CS CoE) is a unified strategic team focused on leveraging the transformative capabilities of data and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to assist scientists in delivering innovative medicines for patients worldwide. Within this organization, the Portfolio & Operations team drives core operations, portfolio strategy, administration, budget planning, vendor management, and procurement interactions. As our investments in contractors, consultants, and managed services increase, we have an exciting opportunity to transition from reactive purchasing to a strategic, data-driven sourcing model.

We are seeking an experienced professional to lead the Supplier Landscape & Taxonomy Initiative, which will support the transition to a centralized CPL (Contract, Procurement & Licensing) operating model. This role will focus on classifying and curating our current fragmented spend and proposing a consolidated sourcing framework for the department.

Key Responsibilities

• Spend Taxonomy & Classification: Lead the development of a bespoke spend taxonomy that establishes clear definitions across service categories, thereby enhancing cost control and strategic sourcing initiatives.
• Data Curation & Enrichment: Review and rationalize our inventory of external contractors and consultants, aligning capabilities with defined procurement categories.
• Strategic Consolidation: Identify synergies within our supplier landscape and design strategies to maximize leverage and streamline administrative processes.
• Operational Bridge: Align with the Portfolio & Operations teams to ensure efficient data flow between the supplier landscape and our budget frameworks.
• Service Catalog Development: Create a standardized catalog of "buying categories" aligning with the technical needs of Computational Science.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts to translate technical roles into functional sourcing categories.
• Rate Card Benchmarking: Analyze rate structures to ensure optimal sourcing channels for specialized skill sets.
• Supplier Risk Profiling: Partner with Global Procurement to establish a risk-assessment framework for our supplier landscape.

The Ideal Candidate

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Procurement, Supply Chain, Data Science, or a related field.
• Experience: 5+ years in Strategic Sourcing, Vendor Management, or Consulting within high-tech environments.
• Data Architect Mindset: Ability to curate complex datasets and develop logical classification frameworks.
• Technical Fluency: Familiarity with the language of AI/Data science to accurately categorize technical services.
• Computational Domain Literacy: Strong understanding of the "Computational Science" market.
• Adaptability: Quick to adapt to new environments and learn new concepts and tools.
• Fluency in English: Required.
