Job Description

As a Staff Frontend Engineer, you'll be a hands-on technical leader with company-wide impact across our Real Estate vertical. You’ll shape and evolve the frontend architecture powering our portals, create shared frontend solutions adopted by multiple teams, and orchestrate complex cross-team initiatives.

Meet the Team

At SMG, our strength lies in our people. Meet the Manager with whom you could work:

  • Yuliya Zvolskaya - Engineering Manager - LinkedIn

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the evolution of our Real Estate frontend architecture to support future requirements, defining and improving SLAs/SLOs while anticipating ripple effects across systems in collaboration with other senior engineers and principals.
  • Design and create shared frontend libraries, components, and tooling (e.g., design system, performance tooling) that are widely used by internal teams, focusing on pragmatic, reusable solutions and driving their adoption.
  • Orchestrate multi-system refactors and migrations, breaking projects into manageable pieces while coordinating with engineers, product teams, and other stakeholders.
  • Act as a go-to person across teams and locations for frontend topics, influencing how web experiences are built across the Real Estate organization.
  • Mentor and coach other engineers through structured mentorship, pairing, and feedback, helping them grow their skills and addressing skill gaps.
  • Model a healthy feedback culture, assisting team members in navigating tough conversations and conflicts constructively.
  • Challenge and improve team and cross-team processes, proposing changes to enhance focus, quality, and speed as needed.
  • Write code while also multiplying the effectiveness of others, balancing personal contributions with team impact.

Your Day-to-Day

  • You'll be part of a regular product team, dividing your time between product delivery and staff responsibilities based on current needs and priorities.
  • Innovate, design, implement, and deploy frontend-focused engineering solutions for our Real Estate products, from discovery to production.
  • Own the end-to-end technical vision for key user journeys like Homegate and Immoscout24, with a strong focus on performance, accessibility, UX quality, and reliability.
  • Lead cross-team frontend initiatives and advocate for the resolution of cross-cutting technical bottlenecks at the leadership level.
  • Collaborate closely with Product, Design, and other engineering teams to shape technical strategy and trade-offs for new features and platform work.
  • Partner with DevX to co-develop engineering 'blueprints' and health scorecards, setting the gold standard for our frontend repositories.
  • Evaluate, prototype, and introduce new frontend technologies and approaches, documenting findings and advocating for adoption.
  • Own and evolve the Frontend ADR process to ensure technical decisions are documented and consistently implemented.
  • Guide and review the work of other engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and informal coaching.
  • Help the team embrace AI & large language models in engineering workflows and products.
  • Contribute to and facilitate guilds, tech chats, and other cross-team knowledge-sharing formats.
  • Promote a culture of high-quality engineering encompassing testing, monitoring with Datadog, observability, security, and operational excellence.
