Senior Scientist – Biomarker Development, Translational Medicine – 7127 ADA

We are currently seeking a Senior Scientist – Biomarker Development, Translational Medicine for a contract position based in Basel, Switzerland, lasting until April 30, 2027.

As a Senior Scientist within Molecular & Cellular Sciences (MCS), you will play a crucial role in executing exploratory biomarker strategies across our clinical pipeline. Your work will bridge biology, technology, and clinical development to deliver innovative biomarker solutions that foster smarter decisions and improved outcomes for patients.

This hands-on laboratory-based role will involve developing state-of-the-art biomarker assays across multiple programs, collaborating with global experts, and driving the implementation of cutting-edge biomarker technologies from early development through clinical studies.

Please note that this is an on-site role; home office arrangements are only possible under exceptional circumstances.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Hands-on development and validation of soluble biomarker assays, with a focus on ligand binding assays such as ELISA, MSD, NULISA, and Ella, alongside other advanced technologies including LC-MS.
  • Providing subject matter expertise for the transfer, implementation, and monitoring of soluble biomarker assay development, validation, and sample analysis at external providers.
  • Generating and interpreting biomarker assay data to support proof of mechanism, dose selection, and proof of biology across early clinical programs, as well as presenting results at internal meetings.
  • Ensuring the quality and timely delivery of data generated through internal and outsourced biomarker assay activities.
  • Serving as the scientific and technical lead for exploratory soluble biomarker assays, overseeing assay strategy, data quality, interpretation, documentation, and alignment to context of use and clinical study endpoints.
  • Maintaining high standards for scientific rigor, documentation, data integrity, compliance, safety, and technical excellence in accordance with applicable policies and procedures.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Relevant working/residency permit or Swiss/EU citizenship required.
  • BS/MS degree in Biology, Immunology, Cell Biology, or a related field, with a minimum of 5 years of experience as a laboratory technician in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology environment.
  • Extensive knowledge and practical experience in ligand binding assays are essential, with additional experience in LC-MS methods and related technologies considered a plus.
  • Strong analytical thinking, accountability, and collaborative teamwork skills.
  • Experience working in a global organization with a matrix-resourcing model is advantageous.
  • Proficient in computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Soft MaxPro, SMART Book, GraphPad Prism, Watson LIMS).
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements relevant to biomarker development (e.g., GCLP, ICH).

Nice to Have:

  • A strong track record of scientific contributions in biomarkers, translational science, or analytical technologies.
  • An established external scientific reputation through conferences, collaborations, publications, or consortia.
