Pi Imaging Technology is a fabless semiconductor company that specializes in creating single-photon detector arrays with exceptional sensitivity and minimal noise. Our technology enables partners to launch innovative products that empower end-users to conduct groundbreaking research in life sciences applications, such as confocal microscopy and fluorescence (FLIM) imaging, as well as in quantum information. Utilizing single-photon avalanche diodes (SPADs) designed with standard semiconductor technology, we provide photon-counting arrays featuring megapixel resolution and versatile architectures. These arrays are incorporated into plug-and-play products, complete with FPGA firmware and C++ software, ensuring a seamless operational experience for users.

Position Description

In this role, you will collaborate with a small electronics engineering team, engaging in various tasks related to the development of both new and existing products. Key responsibilities include:

• Developing FPGA firmware and software for high-speed serial communication interfaces
• Designing PCBs for high-speed communication/storage solutions and high-bandwidth connections for detector arrays
• Verifying firmware and software performance, and addressing bugs reported by end-users
• Conducting initial bring-up and characterization of new detectors
• Procuring components and assembly services for prototypes
• Assembling proof-of-concept prototypes

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in electronics engineering or a related field
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English

Required Skills

• Ability to efficiently manage multiple tasks independently
• Strong interpersonal skills, with a capability to thrive in a team environment
• Advanced knowledge and practical experience with C++, VHDL, and Altium Designer
• Expertise in designing FPGA firmware in VHDL under tight timing constraints
• Experience with high-speed serial communication protocols (e.g., Xilinx Aurora, PCI-E)
• Familiarity with test and measurement requirements
• Competence in utilizing data analysis software, such as Python or equivalent

Nice-to-Have Skills

• Knowledge of statistics, including Poisson and exponential distributions
• Understanding of semiconductor technology
• Familiarity with testing protocols for semiconductor chip validation
