Job Opportunity: Senior QA Engineer

We are seeking a dedicated Senior QA Engineer to take full ownership of verification and testing for our innovative medical device product. This role is hands-on, encompassing both manual and automated testing. You will independently investigate new features and edge cases, while developing automation to ensure reliable and efficient repeated checks.

Your primary focus will be on our medical device's web application, which operates across desktop and mobile browsers, as well as its backend services. You will have the autonomy to determine what requires human judgment, what should be automated, and how to prioritize testing on the most significant risks.

As a member of the Product & Tech team, you will be working in a healthcare environment where reliability, privacy, and evidence of critical functionality are paramount.

Key Responsibilities

  • Testing Strategy & Collaboration
    • Define a risk-based testing approach, set coverage targets, and provide evidence-based recommendations for release readiness.
    • Plan and conduct exploratory testing and risk-based regression for new features and critical user journeys.
    • Collaborate with the Product Owner and engineers to clarify requirements, edge cases, usability, and testability early in development.
  • Test Automation & Infrastructure
    • Build and maintain reliable automated API, integration, and end-to-end tests, integrating them into CI/CD processes.
    • Establish and maintain test environments, representative test data, and reporting to support effective day-to-day testing.
  • Verification & Quality Management
    • Verify functionality against agreed requirements and acceptance criteria while maintaining clear verification evidence.
    • Investigate defects, communicate their impact, and collaborate with engineers to address root causes and prevent recurring issues.
    • Maintain a practical test case management system that keeps test cases current and links requirements, tests, results, defects, and verification evidence.

Requirements

  • Strong hands-on experience in manual testing and test automation, including ownership of testing for a product or major product area.
  • Proven ability to define risk-based testing approaches and prioritize what to test and why.
  • Experience testing web applications and APIs, covering authentication, permissions, and failure scenarios.
  • Ability to investigate problems across the application stack and collaborate effectively with developers on solutions.
  • Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD workflows and translating test results into actionable insights.
  • Familiarity with selecting testing tools and establishing or maintaining test case management processes that ensure traceability of requirements, coverage, and results.
  • A detail-oriented, pragmatic approach with strong communication skills and a dedication to seeing issues through to resolution.

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with technological stacks such as AWS, CircleCI, Python, pytest, React, Jest, or Playwright.
  • Experience using AI in testing or engineering tasks, such as generating or prioritizing test cases or analyzing failures.
  • Previous experience testing products in healthcare or similar environments that demand high standards of privacy, security, and quality.
  • Experience designing test data and environments for complex integrations or handling sensitive information.
  • Experience mentoring engineers on testability and contributing to a culture of quality.

What Success Looks Like

Within your first 6–12 months, you will have:

  • Established a risk-based testing approach and identified coverage gaps while prioritizing improvements based on critical user journeys and product risks.
  • Enhanced both manual and automated testing through reliable test environments, effective automation, exploratory testing, and comprehensive medical-device verification records.
  • Improved visibility into test results, outstanding risks, and overall release readiness, enabling the team to detect defects earlier and diminish avoidable production failures.

You will own the testing approach and collaborate with the wider team to establish well-tested changes as the norm, ensuring that quality and release decisions remain a collective responsibility.
