Job Opportunity: Researcher at the Universal Rights Group

The Universal Rights Group (URG) is a not-for-profit civil society organization dedicated to enhancing the enjoyment of human rights through collaboration with the UN human rights system. We are currently seeking a Researcher to join our team in mid-2026.

Position Overview

The Researcher will play a vital role in supporting URG’s Executive Director and Analysts by conducting research into critical human rights concerns. This includes both thematic areas (such as digital technology and human rights, as well as the right to a healthy environment) and institutional matters (such as UN Human Rights Council reform and national implementation mechanisms). The Researcher will also assist in drafting reports and organizing policy dialogues, along with various URG events.

Location

This position is based at URG's headquarters in Geneva.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in international relations, human rights, or a related field.
• Exceptional written communication skills, particularly in English and French.
• Fluency in English and French, and a working knowledge of Chinese/Mandarin is preferred.
• Strong understanding of the UN human rights system, including the Human Rights Council, UPR, Treaty Bodies, and Special Procedures.
• A minimum of one year of experience working in international Geneva on human rights issues.
• At least six months of experience in climate-related research that intersects with development, human rights, and climate change, ideally within a Least Developed Country vulnerable to climate change.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to organize high-level events effectively.
