PostDocs and/or Senior Engineers in Electromagnetics

The Foundation for Research on Information Technologies in Society (IT’IS), an independent, nonprofit research organization closely associated with the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich, is currently seeking talented individuals to strengthen our computational and experimental electromagnetics research team.

IT’IS, in collaboration with partner organizations Schmid & Partner Engineering AG (SPEAG), ZMT Zurich MedTech AG (ZMT), and TI Solutions AG (TI Solutions), forms the Zurich43 alliance. This alliance is dedicated to advancing knowledge and technology in the following areas:

  • Characterization, optimization, and application of the electromagnetic (EM) near-field.
  • Predictive modeling of interactions between physical agents and physiology in complex anatomies.
  • Medical applications utilizing advanced electromagnetics techniques.

Your Challenges:

  • Engagement in various research projects related to electromagnetics, encompassing theory, modeling, experiments, and applications such as wireless systems and magnetic resonance imaging.
  • Making world-class scientific contributions to the theory, modeling, optimization, and application of the EM near-field.
  • Developing novel instrumentation, computational methods, and characterization procedures.
  • Participating in national and international standard activities (IEC, IEEE, etc.).
  • Collaborating with external research partners and providing hardware support for Z43 customers.

Your Strengths:

  • PhD in Physics or Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience with EM simulation software (e.g., Sim4Life, COMSOL, ANSYS) and/or EM measurement instruments.
  • Proficiency in programming in C++ and/or Python.
  • Knowledge in areas such as wireless communication systems, radiofrequency antenna simulation and measurement, electrodynamics, numerical simulation of EM fields, biomedical engineering, error analysis, and uncertainty conventions is a plus.
  • Strong sense of responsibility and commitment to the highest quality standards of work.
  • Self-motivated with good organizational and communication skills, impeccable attention to detail, and a friendly personality fostered by team spirit.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while working independently in a fast-paced setting and meeting tight deadlines.
  • Commitment to effectively respond to the needs of partners and customers.
  • Proficiency in English (both written and spoken); knowledge of German is an advantage.

Our Offer:

  • A vibrant, multicultural, and innovative work environment that drives key technologies while fostering diversity and inclusion.
  • Access to state-of-the-art laboratories, high-performance computing clusters, and production facilities.
  • A creative mix of global talents from various fields, including physics, electronics, mathematics, and biology, all striving for excellence and high ethical standards.
  • Flexible working hours in a prime location in the heart of Zurich.
