Context & Mission

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an independent, international medical and humanitarian organization that provides care to those in need, affected by natural or man-made disasters, and victims of armed conflict, without discrimination. Established in Switzerland in 1981, with its headquarters in Geneva, the Philanthropy Unit is part of the Communications and Fundraising Department. The unit is comprised of 17 professionals, raising around CHF 60 million annually from generous donors.

The Philanthropy Advisor will engage with major donors to strengthen their relationship with MSF's mission, organizing meetings, providing project information, and promoting financial support. This role collaborates with global fundraising specialists to ensure quality medical aid reaches millions affected by crises.

Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of major donors to enhance their engagement with MSF.
  • Qualify major donors and prospects collaboratively with the Prospect Researcher.
  • Organize and facilitate interactions such as meetings and presentations for major donors and their representatives.
  • Identify and establish relationships with potential major donors, including ultra-high-net-worth individuals.
  • Coordinate visits to MSF offices and projects as per MSF guidelines.
  • Ensure donor identities align with MSF's gifts acceptance policy.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in the database.
  • Collaborate on the preparation of project-related materials for major donors.
  • Represent MSF’s cases for support effectively to potential donors in German or English.
  • Support income forecasting and quarterly results analysis.
  • Engage proactively in projects within the Philanthropy Unit as required.

Your Profile

Education

  • Tertiary degree in Business Management, Marketing, Communications, Political Science, Law, International Relations or a related field.

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in high-level relational roles such as public relations, wealth management, sales, marketing, or humanitarian work.
  • Experience with Customer Relationship Management systems is a plus.
  • Understanding of humanitarian aid is advantageous.

Languages

  • Swiss German (native or equivalent).
  • English.
  • French and Italian are a plus.

Terms of Employment

  • Full-time position (40 hours per week).
  • Open-ended contract.
  • Location: Zurich, Switzerland.
  • Ideal start date: February 16th, 2026.
  • Gross annual salary: CHF 87,372 to CHF 100,608 (commensurate with experience).
  • 25 days of paid vacation per year, plus Swiss public holidays.
  • Pension plan contributions: three-quarters covered by MSF, one-quarter by the employee.
  • Relocation package available for candidates moving from abroad.
