Position Overview

We are seeking an accomplished Master of Science graduate in Ecology, Environmental Sciences, Geography, Climate Sciences, Earth Sciences, or Quaternary Sciences, specializing in sedimentary palaeo sciences and/or vegetation ecology.

Responsibilities

The selected candidate will engage in labor-intensive microscopic and laboratory analyses, which include:

  • Pollen analysis
  • Macrofossil examination
  • Ancient DNA (aDNA) analysis

Additionally, the role involves 2-3 months of fieldwork in Mediterranean environments for core and data collection.

Qualifications

Knowledge of Greek and/or Italian is advantageous. The PhD student will be enrolled in the Graduate School of Climate Sciences, and the PhD will be awarded by the Faculty of Natural Sciences at the University of Bern.

Employment Details

The position is set to commence on January 1, 2026. The salary aligns with the Swiss standards for doctoral students, with a gross yearly salary ranging between 47,000 and 55,000 CHF, depending on the duration of the employment. The maximum duration for this position is four years.
