About PAGES

PAGES (Past Global Changes) is an international paleoscience network whose International Project Office is hosted by the University of Bern. As the PAGES community's in-house data scientist, you will support working groups in curating, harmonizing, and analyzing paleoscience datasets, and help build the network's products, publications, and outreach.

Your Tasks

• Provide data science support to PAGES working groups (curation, harmonization, machine learning/AI)
• Manage the Data Stewardship Scholarship
• Perform data curation adhering to FAIR/LiPD standards and liaising with repositories
• Co-edit publications for Past Global Changes Magazine and Horizons
• Contribute to publications, both for working groups and personal research
• Coordinate and report on international activities, representing PAGES

Your Profile

• PhD in paleoscience, data science, statistics, or a related computational field
• Strong proficiency in R/Python; experience with version control and reproducible workflows
• Experience with large, heterogeneous proxy/geological databases
• Skilled in handling incomplete, noisy, or unevenly sampled time series
• Excellent communication skills; able to explain methods to non-specialists
• Proficient in written and spoken English (German language skills beneficial but not required)
• Preferred: Experience with PANGAEA, NOAA, Neotoma, LiPD, age-depth modeling, and Adobe Creative Suite
