PhD Project Opportunity in Nonlinear Optics

A PhD project is available in the Nonlinear Optics group at the Institute of Applied Science, University of Bern. We are seeking a dedicated and innovative researcher to join our team.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct original research within the project.
  • Prepare, perform, and analyze laser-based experiments, along with related simulations and data analysis.
  • Develop and optimize advanced ultrafast spectroscopic setups.
  • Interpret results in the context of condensed-matter physics and materials science.
  • Write reports and publications, and present talks and posters at international conferences.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners, contributing to day-to-day lab activities.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in physics or a closely related field.
  • Background or interest in experimental condensed matter and/or optics.
  • Experience with nonlinear optics and/or optical spectroscopy is a plus (but not essential).
  • Motivation to work with ultrafast lasers and readiness to participate in experiments at large-scale facilities.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
