We are seeking a curious and motivated PhD student to join our optomechanics team and work at the interface between meta-optics and optomechanics.
Recent advances in meta-optics have led to enhanced control over light-matter interaction, contributing to various research directions including imaging, nonlinear optics, biosensing, and photonic computing. While less explored, meta-optics also presents significant opportunities in the field of optomechanics, which studies the interactions of optical and mechanical properties, with applications extending to both fundamental physics and innovative technologies.
The project aims to leverage the latest advancements in meta-optics to achieve greater control over optomechanical interactions. By precisely engineering the electromagnetic modes supported by metasurfaces, we can manipulate the optical forces they experience and, consequently, their mechanical response. This research aims to unveil unprecedented effects, enhancing our fundamental understanding and driving new technological developments.
Your work will encompass all stages from idealization of the system to its full characterization:
Your workplace will be in the vibrant atmosphere of ETH Zurich, where you will engage with an international and interdisciplinary research group renowned for pioneering contributions to optomechanics.
