PURPOSE OF POSITION

You will oversee the entire hotel operation onboard, ensuring the highest level of guest satisfaction and fostering a pleasant working environment for all crew members. Your role requires adherence to Viking China Outbound Standards and budgets.

ASSIGNMENTS/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the entire hotel operation onboard.
  • Ensure that all hotel departments are maintained according to established standards.
  • Motivate and manage the crew, emphasizing the leadership of Department Heads.
  • Implement service procedures in line with company standards.
  • Order stock for the hotel department, including F&B, housekeeping supplies, and equipment.
  • Maintain impeccable cleanliness, hygiene, and order in all areas of the hotel department in accordance with HACCP guidelines.
  • Conduct final inspections and receive all supplies and deliveries for the hotel department.
  • Supervise and organize the opening and closing of ships at the beginning and end of each season.
  • Engage with guests and effectively manage any complaints.
  • Actively participate in onboard events and special functions.
  • Be present in the galley and restaurant during meal times.
  • Ensure smooth communication flows with the nautical department, onboard management, crew, and the Head Office in Basel.
  • Provide departmental training in accordance with the required profile.
  • Oversee cost control measures and adherence to set budgets.
  • Conduct daily analyses of debtors in collaboration with the Receptionist/Night Auditor.
  • Conduct stock takes and manage inventory in accordance with company procedures.
  • Actively participate in loadings.

QUALIFICATION PROFILE

  • Graduate education in the hotel industry, preferably from a hotel management school (tertiary degree in hotel management with a focus on F&B operations is preferred).
  • Several years of professional management experience in a similar role within the luxury hotel sector, preferably in the cruise industry.
  • Exceptional management, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Guest-focused, stress-resistant, calm under pressure, and a positive team player.
  • Open-minded and flexible, with strong social and intercultural competencies; a good understanding of Chinese culture and appropriate etiquette in social and business settings.
  • Fluent in Mandarin and proficient in English (both written and verbal); additional language skills (e.g., German) are advantageous.
  • Ability to work independently with strong computer skills.
