Job Opportunity: Head of Marketing & Communication

As the Head of Marketing & Communication at our Global Office in Zurich, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing Swisscontact's positioning among private and institutional partners. Your efforts will strengthen our distinctiveness and visibility within a challenging international environment, particularly as public funds for international development cooperation continue to decline. A key focus of your work will be to expand our private funder base, concentrating on corporate and philanthropic foundations, as well as family offices in Switzerland and Europe.

Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Further develop an integrated marketing and communications strategy that enhances Swisscontact’s reputation as a private sector-oriented development organization, targeting key clients and partners in strategic markets.
  • Translate the strategy into clear priorities, resource allocations, and measurable objectives.
  • Monitor and report on marketing goals and KPIs, ensuring effective implementation, evaluation, and optimization.
  • Develop, lead, and continuously improve fundraising campaigns and marketing activities across various digital channels, social media, PR, and corporate communications, utilizing compelling in-house storytelling.
  • Innovate digital strategies and optimize processes using AI tools, automation, and emerging technologies to increase reach, impact, and efficiency.
  • Build and nurture a network of contacts with media and stakeholders in both the private and public sectors.
  • Lead and develop a small marketing and communication team in Zurich, offering hands-on support as needed. Oversee annual planning, reporting, budgeting, and human resource management for the team.
  • Leverage a network of regional communication managers to maintain alignment of marketing and communication strategies across regions, ensuring consistent adherence to communication and brand standards throughout the organization.

Requirements

  • Higher education in marketing, communication, or related fields (university degree, technical college, or equivalent training and further education).
  • A minimum of eight years of professional experience in marketing and communications.
  • In-depth understanding of digital marketing, social media, content strategies, multimedia communications, publishing workflows, marketing technologies, and performance measurement based on data analytics.
  • Familiarity with relevant tools and platforms, such as MS Dynamics CRM, CMS, Adobe Creative Cloud, and Google Marketing Platform.
  • An entrepreneurial, proactive, and constructive mindset, with a strong motivation to work in international development.
  • Proven success in developing and implementing communications strategies within complex matrix organizations, ideally in the internationally active private services sector or international cooperation.
  • Demonstrated leadership and change-management experience, along with a pragmatic, action-oriented approach.
  • Experience in planning and executing effective campaigns with a strong emphasis on organic reach.
  • Strong communication skills, conceptual and strategic abilities, a willingness to innovate, and openness to new technologies and trends.
  • Exceptional intercultural skills and the ability to navigate diplomatically within diverse team settings.
  • Flexibility and readiness to travel to our project countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and Eastern Europe.
  • Excellent command of English and German is essential; proficiency in French and/or Spanish is a plus.

What Swisscontact Offers

  • An agile organization characterized by a culture of mutual respect, trust, and teamwork.
  • The chance to help influence Swisscontact's strategic direction.
  • Flexible working models and opportunities for professional development.
