Job Title: Director of Global Packaging Development
As a Director of Global Packaging Development, you will lead and cultivate a multi-disciplinary department, overseeing sub-teams and fostering collaboration, performance, and alignment with business objectives. You will also be responsible for managing the department's budget and providing technical expertise in luxury packaging and filling processes. This role ensures the feasibility and successful industrialization of new products and processes while maintaining technical excellence, scalability, and compliance with quality and business requirements.
How You Will Create a Beautiful Impact
- Lead the packaging department, including specialized sub-teams, ensuring that capabilities and capacity are effectively aligned.
- Steer and monitor the packaging budget while supporting the Vice President of R&D on all packaging-related topics.
- Act as a technical expert in luxury packaging materials, technologies, and filling processes, collaborating with internal and external networks to drive development and optimization on legal, regulatory, quality, strategic, and market positioning fronts.
- Stay abreast of new technologies, industrial trends, and competitive luxury packaging, regularly proposing innovative ideas for future products to the VP of R&D and Marketing.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure sub-teams deliver effective packaging, process development, and industrialization of products on time, in full, and with high quality, while managing relevant data (SAP, SOPs, tests, regulatory requirements, specifications, range boards, tools).
- Proactively assess the feasibility of packaging and production improvements, focusing on optimization, efficiency, and new technologies.
- Guarantee compliance of the packaging portfolio through diligent data management.
- Work on long-term initiatives to proactively fill the product pipeline, making thoughtful proposals to Marketing.
- Select and release suppliers based on technical requirements, capabilities, and procurement strategies.
- Facilitate changes in packaging within the supply chain effectively.
Main Accountabilities
- Display strong leadership skills and a solid business understanding.
- Provide guidance within technical expertise areas, acting as a consultant and support for internal and external networks, including Marketing, Quality, and Supply Chain.
- Oversee the development, validation, and approval of molds/tools, including lifecycle management for existing packaging and tools.
- Address quality issues and spearhead improvements in implementation and supplier management.
- Support optimization projects by assessing technical capabilities related to timing, quality, and cooperation in development and production.
- Guide the team in packaging and process development activities, including development and pilot tool contracts.
- Ensure transparent documentation and effective communication of results and milestones to stakeholders and interfaces.
- Develop solutions for packaging issues related to quality, production, and transport.
- Manage interfaces within Supply Chain and Marketing regarding packaging and quality projects.
- Conduct regular reporting as per agreements and perform risk assessments of packaging and filling activities, identifying ways to mitigate risks in supply.
- Define packaging strategies to update the portfolio proactively.
What You Need to Stand Out
- Degree in Packaging Engineering or a comparable field.
- A minimum of 15 years of experience in luxury packaging development.
- At least 5 years of experience in a leadership role.
- Exceptional organizational skills.
- Fluency in English; proficiency in German is a plus.
