Summary
We are looking for an experienced Executive Director of Therapeutic Area Strategy to join the Novartis Strategy & Growth team within our Oncology & Hematology sector. This role offers a hybrid working model and is available in Cambridge, MA, East Hanover, NJ, or Basel, Switzerland. The successful candidate will support the creation and continuous update of a holistic Therapeutic Area (TA) strategy and provide valuable commercial insights to project teams. Your expertise will guide TA-specific internal pipeline development and external licensing/acquisition opportunities, ensuring integrated enterprise alignment across various units including Biomedical Research, Development, Strategy & Growth, and Commercial teams in both the US and International markets.
About the Role
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide external benchmarking, insightful analysis, and strategic judgment to assist the TA Strategy Head in developing a comprehensive Novartis TA strategy aimed at achieving sustainable growth in the short, mid, and long term.
- Utilize your understanding of the pharmaceutical industry and core Therapeutic Areas (TA), particularly in Oncology & Hematology, to develop differentiating competitive advantages.
- Deliver key commercial insights to R&D project teams, especially for early-phase programs, leveraging your in-market US experience.
- Analyze reports and publications to extract critical messages and construct product forecasts.
- Support the development and delivery of TA-specific strategic external insights to identify growth opportunities and emerging competitive challenges, while also commissioning targeted primary research.
Essential Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree is required; an advanced degree (PhD, MD, or equivalent) and/or extensive experience in life sciences or healthcare is highly preferred.
- In-depth knowledge or a proven track record of rapidly acquiring requisite expertise in Oncology and/or Hematology Therapeutic Areas.
- Ability to manage multiple strategic Disease Areas within a TA and oversee various internal and external programs effectively.
- Substantial experience in evaluating new product opportunities through M&A, BD&L, and internal research initiatives.
- A minimum of 7-10 years of experience in the pharmaceutical or medical devices industry, particularly in Research & Development and/or commercial functions, including conducting, commissioning, and analyzing primary research.
- Proven experience in strategy development and shaping assets early in their lifecycle.
- Recent in-market experience in the US (post-2015) that includes interaction with local US customers and healthcare systems.
