The Position
As part of the Pilot Plant team, the Biotechnician (USP) plays a vital role in the development of processes for manufacturing recombinant proteins with CHO cultures. This includes executing pilot batch runs, preparing materials, collecting data, and sharing knowledge with the manufacturing teams.
Your Responsibilities
- Conduct manufacturing activities at pilot scale while applying standard laboratory practices under guidance and supervision, adhering to defined scopes and timelines.
- Support technology transfer activities and share knowledge with the manufacturing team.
- Document executed work in accordance with internal guidelines.
- Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts in troubleshooting activities.
- Record batch results with a critical mindset.
- Write protocols and SOPs using available templates.
- Drive simple initiatives related to job duties with limited guidance and supervision within the team.
- Ensure the consistent application of EHS standards in daily laboratory operations, assist colleagues in following safety procedures, and contribute to enhancing overall safety and housekeeping practices in the laboratory.
Job Requirements
- Experience in preparing media and buffers, including pH adjustment, sterile filtration, and accurate weighing.
- Proficiency in aseptic techniques and working in biosafety cabinets.
- Ability to operate, troubleshoot, and maintain laboratory equipment.
- Skills in sample handling and preparation (e.g., clarification, sterile filtration, buffer exchange).
- Familiarity with general analysis instruments (e.g., automated cell counters, osmolality and metabolite analyzers, spectrophotometer, pH meter, etc.).
- Experience in data collection and report writing, with confidence in using IT tools.
- Good understanding of GMP practices and constraints at manufacturing scale.
- Basic troubleshooting and maintenance skills for bioreactors, ATFs, and support systems.
- Excellent communication skills (English required; German is a plus).
- A solution-oriented mindset and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Collaborative team player with the ability to manage changes and quickly adapt to new situations.
