Research Histopathology Technologist

Roche Switzerland bridges the gap between pharmaceuticals and diagnostics, with key research and development functions located here. We are currently seeking a motivated and experienced Histopathology Technologist for our long-term client, F. Hoffmann-La Roche AG, in Basel.

Background

The Tissue & Spatial Technologies Platform in the 360 Labs Initiative is looking for a highly motivated histopathology technologist to offer focused histology services and support user onboarding in our open lab. The successful candidate will possess a strong background in the histological preparation of mammalian tissues and work collaboratively within a matrix team. This role involves close collaboration with experts across various therapeutic disease areas to advance early drug discovery and contribute to the growth of the Histopathology Platform within the pRED organization.

Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Execute end-to-end workflows for tissue specimens, including processing, embedding, sectioning, staining (including immunohistochemistry (IHC), in situ hybridization (ISH), and immunofluorescence (IF)), as well as digital pathology techniques such as whole slide scanning.
  • Perform quality control, routine maintenance, and troubleshooting across histology lab instruments to ensure high-quality data production.
  • Provide training and support in histology equipment usage, collaborating with laboratory scientists to optimize tissue-based assays in early drug discovery research projects.
  • Embrace a continuous learning mindset by actively engaging with scientific literature to stay updated on new technologies and approaches in histopathology.

Must Haves

  • A university degree in life sciences or at least 3 years of histology laboratory experience as a Laboratory Technologist.
  • Exceptional skills in histological preparation of mammalian tissues, hands-on experience in fixation, embedding, sectioning, and staining techniques, along with knowledge of the operation and maintenance of histological lab equipment.
  • Strong understanding of regulations for assay documentation to ensure high-quality data generation.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, robust manual dexterity, and precision in handling delicate samples, such as cryopreserved nervous-system tissues.
  • Customer-focused with a drive for growth, a questioning mindset, and skills in creative problem-solving and organization within a fast-paced research environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, high fluency in English, a desire to expand personal networks, and an ability to thrive in a dynamic, inclusive environment with full accountability for contributions and development.
