About the Role
The Associate Director of Group Tax - Reporting and Accounting is a newly created position for an accomplished tax accounting and reporting expert with substantial IT experience, particularly in Oracle HFM.
The ideal candidate will possess over 20 years of tax accounting and reporting experience and will play a crucial role within Amcor’s Group Tax leadership team. Expertise in US GAAP, business combination, and integration is essential. Additionally, candidates should have detailed knowledge of Oracle HFM systems and familiarity with a variety of other IT and accounting systems, as a key responsibility of this role will involve integrating the tax systems and processes of Amcor and Berry.
Key Job Accountabilities
Reporting and Analysis
- Lead and manage the preparation and review of tax disclosures in Amcor’s consolidated US GAAP accounts.
- Oversee the Group's US GAAP tax reporting processes for key items such as tax expense, tax provision, deferred taxes, effective tax rate, and cash tax through Amcor’s reporting tools.
- Collaborate with the VP Tax and other Tax Directors to investigate any variances in budget or forecast tax expenses and provisions.
- Manage Amcor group’s cash repatriation process alongside the VP Tax, Treasury, and other Tax Directors to meet all obligations related to the group’s internal funding structures.
Systems and Processes
- Integrate the Amcor and Berry tax systems.
- Implement appropriate tax data collection systems and policies.
- Work with internal audit to ensure the establishment of effective tax risk management and review programs.
- Develop, implement, and maintain internal controls and processes, including coordinating the creation of Amcor tax policies.
Tax Policies, Procedures and Tax Strategy
- Lead the formulation of tax policies aligned with Amcor Group standards.
- Manage the tax risk framework to ensure Amcor’s global tax risks are adequately monitored.
- Support individual businesses in optimizing the tax position across the Amcor group.
- Assist the Group Tax leadership in developing and deploying the group’s tax strategy.
- Implement strategic tax decisions and projects to advance the Amcor group.
- Identify opportunities for enhancing and developing Amcor’s tax function.
Country by Country Reporting and Pillar Two Implementation
- Lead compliance with OECD Pillar Two Global Minimum Tax requirements, ensuring accurate calculations and timely reporting.
- Oversee the preparation and filing of the annual Country-by-Country Report (CbCR) for the consolidated group.
- Partner with finance, technology, and regional tax teams to design data collection processes supporting Pillar Two calculations.
- Provide technical guidance on global minimum tax rules, advising management on impacts.
- Monitor evolving legislation and OECD guidance related to compliance obligations.
- Drive process improvements and technology solutions to enhance efficiency and audit readiness for global transparency reporting.
Tax Advisory and Planning
- Collaborate with VPs of Finance to address significant cross-border issues affecting the Amcor group.
- Provide tax advice and support to various Amcor Group functions related to commercial projects.
- Develop risk mitigating strategies in response to legal and regulatory changes impacting Amcor’s tax profile.
Structuring, Projects and Other Initiatives
- Offer specialized tax input for acquisitions, divestments, and internal reorganizations during different project phases.
- Manage the Amcor Group’s legal structure and associated tax matters.
- Ensure compliance with local jurisdictional authorities regarding tax matters.
- Coordinate tax aspects of acquisition/divestment accounting.
Transfer Pricing
- Develop and maintain internal controls, policies, and procedures for identifying risk areas within regional businesses.
- Support regional teams to identify tax-efficient planning opportunities for cross-border arrangements.
- Collaborate with the Amcor Tax team to ensure consistent transfer pricing methodologies are documented.
Tax Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with Amcor’s SOX Control Environment applicable to tax.
- Assess and document the effectiveness of internal tax SOX controls.
- Contribute to the Tax Risk register to monitor taxation risks.
- Provide insights for tax risk updates to the Audit Committee of the Amcor Plc Board.
- Coordinate outcomes and learnings from tax reviews and audits across the group.
People Management
- Set clear targets and goals for direct reports aligned with company direction.
- Lead by example through effective communication and foster a positive team environment.
- Provide coaching and constructive feedback focused on future development.
- Encourage teamwork and collaboration across internal functions.
Knowledge and Relationship Management
- Monitor revenue law changes and analyze their impacts on group operations.
- Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including Revenue Authorities and auditors.
- Continuously improve the tax function and its profile within Amcor through training and system enhancements.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in accounting, finance, law, or a related field.
- CPA qualified (or equivalent) or tax qualification.
- Post-graduate qualification in taxation or a financial discipline is advantageous.
- A minimum of 20 years of significant tax experience in a leading public accounting firm or an industry position.
- Proven international tax experience, preferably with large multi-national groups.
- Hands-on experience with Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) or financial consolidation tools.
- Specific experience with Oracle Hyperion Financial Management (HFM), including system administration roles.
- Able to translate tax business requirements into clear, structured change requests.
- Competent in coordinating system enhancements in alignment with tax and consolidation reporting needs.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with project management capabilities.
- Analytical thinker with a high attention to detail and accuracy.
- Self-motivated with a proactive, hands-on approach.
