Job Description

The Technical Manager will closely collaborate with food manufacturing clients, offering technical support in areas such as food safety, BRCGS compliance, audit readiness, validation, technical documentation, and chemical implementation.

A crucial aspect of this role will involve assisting customers in preparing for audits, identifying improvement areas, and ensuring that their technical systems and documentation remain current and compliant. You will frequently visit customer sites across the UK to directly support technical and operational teams with technical advice, product trials, implementation, audits, and maintenance of food safety and technical standards.

The position also requires teamwork with hygiene teams, providing technical guidance on products and processes, supporting training, and helping customers demonstrate that their cleaning and hygiene systems meet required standards.

This role is ideal for an experienced technical professional from a food manufacturing background, possessing strong knowledge of BRCGS and food hygiene standards, and comfortable working independently in a field-based environment while directly advising customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide ongoing technical support to food manufacturing clients across the UK.
  • Assist customers with BRCGS compliance and audit readiness.
  • Conduct regular site visits to evaluate technical and food safety standards.
  • Perform technical audits and identify areas requiring improvement before audits.
  • Support customers with validation activities and related documentation.
  • Review and maintain technical documentation, training records, and compliance files.
  • Assist with product trials and implementations at customer sites.
  • Deliver technical guidance on effective use of products and processes.
  • Collaborate with hygiene teams to address technical and compliance needs.
  • Provide training and technical guidance to customer teams when necessary.
  • Support technical teams with chemical-related queries and provide practical solutions.
  • Assist with swab testing and verification activities as needed.
  • Record and maintain accurate technical data from visits, trials, audits, and training.
  • Help customers with corrective actions and continuous improvement.
  • Build strong relationships with customer technical and operational teams.
  • Offer ongoing post-sale technical support to ensure customers meet required standards.
  • Collaborate with wider technical and commercial teams to fulfill customer needs.
  • Travel extensively across the UK to customer sites regularly.

Key Requirements

  • Previous experience in a Technical, Technical Services, Quality, or Food Safety role.
  • Strong background in food manufacturing environments.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and practical experience of BRCGS standards.
  • Good understanding of food safety, hygiene standards, and audit requirements.
  • Experience assisting food manufacturing sites with audit preparation and compliance.
  • Familiarity with validation, technical documentation, and compliance records.
  • Experience working alongside hygiene teams in food manufacturing.
  • Confident in providing technical guidance and training to customer teams.
  • Experience with chemical usage, cleaning processes, or hygiene systems is highly beneficial.
  • Comfortable conducting site visits, audits, and technical assessments.
  • Strong communication skills to build relationships with customers.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently in a field-based role.
  • Willingness to travel across the UK on a regular basis.

Advantageous Requirements

  • Experience working directly with food manufacturing customers in a technical or consultancy capacity.
  • Knowledge of major retail food hygiene standards and retailer requirements.
  • Experience with chemical trials, product validation, or chemical implementation.
  • Previous experience with swab testing and verification of cleaning standards.
  • Relevant technical qualifications, such as HACCP or food safety.
  • Experience supporting multiple food manufacturing sites.
  • Prior field-based technical or consultancy experience.
