Position Overview: Structural Analysis and Test Engineer

As a Structural Analysis and Test Engineer, you will perform detailed finite element analysis (FEA) to assess the structural integrity of unmanned helicopter components. Your responsibilities will include conducting load and fatigue analyses, analyzing composite and metallic structures, executing structural testing, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure design and performance integration.

Your Main Tasks

  • Structural Analysis and Simulation: Perform detailed finite element analysis (FEA), using tools such as FEMAP, NASTRAN, and ANSYS, to evaluate the structural integrity of unmanned helicopter components, including rotor heads, propulsion systems, composite structures, and landing gear.
  • Load and Fatigue Analysis: Conduct static, dynamic, vibration, and fatigue analyses to evaluate performance under both operational and extreme load conditions, including the impact of cyclic loads on rotating machinery and composite materials.
  • Composite and Metallic Structures: Analyze composite layups, bonding interfaces, and hybrid metal-composite structures, ensuring optimized strength-to-weight ratios and compliance with aerospace standards.
  • Test and Correlation: Develop and execute structural testing, including strain gauge instrumentation, accelerometers, and DAQ systems. Correlate test data with FEA predictions, refining models to improve simulation accuracy.
  • Documentation: Prepare detailed engineering documentation, including design specifications, testing procedures, and maintenance manuals.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with electrical, aerodynamic, and software engineering teams to ensure an integrated design and performance of the unmanned helicopter systems.
  • Compliance Assurance: Ensure mechanical designs comply with relevant industry standards, safety regulations, and company policies.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay informed about advancements in mechanical engineering and UAV technology, integrating best practices into analysis processes.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field, along with three years of industry experience; a Doctoral degree is considered equivalent to industry experience.

Experience: Proven track record in structural analysis, preferably within the manned helicopter industry. Experience with composite structures or rotating machinery is essential. Hands-on experience with structural testing is a plus.

Skills: Strong understanding of finite element principles, materials science, and failure criteria, along with proficiency in FEA software (ANSYS and Optistruct preferred) and simulation tools.

Communication: Excellent communication skills, combined with strong social skills and a solid analytical and technical understanding.
