Spacecraft Systems Engineer
Spacecraft aren't merely built by individuals who focus on drafting requirements documents; they are created by systems engineers who can trace each design decision from concept through to a vehicle operating in orbit. Our client is seeking an experienced spacecraft systems engineer to take ownership of the technical thread across a program, leading requirements definition, design, integration, testing, and verification and validation for the complete space vehicle. If you define "systems engineer" as building spacecraft rather than producing paperwork, and possess the breadth to work across every subsystem in a program, this position deserves your attention.
The Role
You will own the technical thread for spacecraft systems, spanning concept development, trade studies, CONOPS definition, requirements decomposition and allocation, interface definition, and verification and validation, all the way to supporting integration and testing as well as on-orbit anomaly resolution. Your responsibilities will include:
- Collaborating with every subsystem team while applying model-based systems engineering techniques to define and integrate the spacecraft system.
- Working closely with program and financial leadership to ensure execution remains on track.
- Mentoring junior systems engineers and subsystem staff members.
- Contributing to the ongoing enhancement of systems engineering processes.
What You’ll Need
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a science discipline with 5 or more years of directly relevant spacecraft systems experience (or a Master’s degree with 3 or more years), escalating to 9 or more years (or a Master’s degree with 7 or more years) for Level 4.
- At least 1 year of experience across some or all of the following: space systems engineering principles, power, mass and other system budgets, requirements analysis and flow down, design verification and validation, configuration management, or satellite integration and testing.
- Comfort in working across multiple subsystems and coordinating with cross-functional engineering teams.
- US Citizenship is required; Top Secret/SCI clearance is required post-start.
What Sets Candidates Apart
- Master’s degree in aerospace or a related engineering or science discipline.
- 9 or more years of professional experience in space systems engineering.
- Direct experience with rapid spacecraft development programs, ideally spanning concept through to in-orbit operations.
- Familiarity with program management principles and tools.
- Active TS/SCI clearance.
